Ok, a friend of mine has an auto 5th gen prelude, and she called me today cause she was having a few issues. Apparantly, until it warmed up, it would all of a sudden drop back a gear for no reason. As in no extra throttle applied, just cruising along at the speed limit. The car is VERY overdue for a service so i'm wondering if it could be the tranny fluid. The problem seems to stop when the car has warmed up. cheers

is it a tiptronic? she should be paying particular attention to it and servicing it more regularly than not. drain and fresh tranny fluid may help. get it done ASAP

Get it checked by your trusted mechanic, sounds like the gearbox is on the way out. My brother had the same issue and shortly after the gearbox ceased. Apparently its a very common thing for triptronic gearboxes on VTI-R preludes specially once it has racked up a lot of k's.
