Gday all

im going to goto Calder Park Raceway on friday night for some good ol legal off street drag racinging and i want to know what peoples opinions are on launching an S2000

what i want to know is at what rev is the sweet spot to get the car off the line hard with minimal or no traction?
i have practiced and found that about 6k is awsome but does have some wheel spin.
also what have people ran down the quarter mile or heard an s2k IN AUSTRALIA can do :)

i have been to calder park many times and have raced lots of cars manuals autos fast and slow but the S2K is different :S

please dont comment if ur gonna say side step the clutch or rev it up to 9k and dump it because that will result in a slap lol as iv already stupidly with no reason done it in the past and broken both drive shafts :P

thanks for eny tips fellas

i think for everyone its different?
some told me 7k and others told me 6k so i think it depends on what you have on the car i guess?

It all depends on what tyres and stuff your running. But when I went to heathcote 2 years ago I ran a 14.1 and my 60foot was like 2.1 or something which is real good IMO. I had the dunlop sport 3000 (worse tyres in the world) Was launching at 6000 and I ran that time. At the time my car was also 100% stock and I had only had the s2000 for about 1 month. I believe with my tyres atm I can go back and do even better, and I can launch at 7000 easily. I see most s2000's running 14.4 - 14.7, it's rare to see s2000's dip into low 14's stock but it's definatly possible. I rekon a stock s2000 can break into 13's driven right.

Sorry to high jack.

 I'm alittle shocked to see those times being run by S2000s. Was expecting high 13's from most S2000s.

I've witnessed a friend's dc2r (mechanically stock as a rock, using street tires + oem clutch + oem suspension, minus some interior) run a 14.3 @ WSID.

S2k's must be 'weighty'?

s2k's weigh more then the dc2r, 1200kg man. It's the gear ratios our stock ratios kinda suck. 14.3 is a really really good stock time, most itr's would be pulling higher then that anyway. There are some s2k's with i/h/e and still struggle to break the 13 barrier haha

Get a stock s2000 + itr rolling in 2nd gear at like low rpm, if they both punch it the itr will pull away with no problems. From a dig it's a diffrent story thats if the s2k driver can launch of corse.

Another thing with the s2k is when u launch, there's no need to fether the cluch/accel just dump and go loll.

Dont forget to factor in that there is a shit load of rubber already on the strip especially at the christmas tree. I've heard ppl dumping at 4-5k and getting too much traction/load due to the surface and doing the rear end in.

Its a tricky thing to get right and im certainly no expert. I guess its a bit of trial and error, just depends on hard your willing to try or how willing u are to pay the repair bills.

Hope it goes well

Only thing is, at Calder there is no time for Trial an error, it's that packed that when you go you will probally only get about 2 - 3 Runs and spend hours lining up. Heathcote is best man every time I've been I've had like 10+ runs a day. I miss it, hanging for a drag again lolll

The s2k is a similar performing vehicle to a itr in a straight line. Mid 14's no worries. But no way 13's in any standard form.

sometimes a bit of wheelspin is not a bad thing... its the ballance between some and not from my experience as it helps you get away

the nights finnally come n gone with some not so bad news and bad news lol

best time of the night was a 14.77 @ 152.3km/h with a bad launch.

my launches were all over the shop all night simply because at the track its totaly different to the street water + VHT + street tyres = wheel spin. but not only wheel spin if i didnt launch it hard enuff the revs would just drop down n take for ever to get back into vtec which was the other problem. i was test launching all night between 6 and 7k to find the sweet spot at the track, enythin less would result in the car not taking off in vtec :(

my tyres on the rear are toyo teo 225/50R16 and i was running 24psi in them

i do how ever belive under 14.5 is possible my best 60' was 2.348sec for ever .1 off ur 60' = between .1 - .3 off ur ET because the top end is there. example my mate raced his Mazda 6 MPS AWD with a boost controler exhuast droped at the diff and half the interior missing he only managed 14.55 @ 152.5km/h

ITS ALL IN THE LUNCH (and your shift point) lol oh and the bad news is my gear box is now noisy when in nutural or out of gear. it was crunching 3rd all night too :)

14.7 xD I did a 14.6 in my celica hehehe :P

It's hard to get a perfect run at calder man, better luck next time. It's all about the 60ft man :)

If it's only the gear that's damaged you might be able to get away with a cheaper fix :)
No point getting the quaife if your only driving on the streets.

Hassan has a diff for sale atm. $750 + requires new LSD. The Crown & Pinion / collar are fine.

Lol seems like a waste but, if I had FI I would definatly hit the 1/4, great way to mesure how quick your car is dyno numbers means shit too me. Make the most of it bro, you spent so much on it, posting pictures gets boring lets see some times. I guess I've been wayy too lucky with my diff then I suppose lol.

I was actually hoping to hit the strip and the track sometime soon, got the clutch and part of the diff here for it, along with better cooling upgrades... but now the ecu has shit itself. It seems like I hardly ever get to drive the damn thing anymore....

vyets

haha you don't need anything for track man, just go and enjoy. The more mods you have the more faster your expected to go :P. But that really sucks man time to upgrade ecu's :D

ludecrs
23-01-2010, 05:30 PM
I can't enjoy it if the ECU wont even start the car LOL.

It was an upgraded ecu LOL. It was a 1052U - standalone and all. Just another setback I guess, I should be used to it by now.

We'll be looking forward to seeing you join us again Brad  after your virgin track run with us a few years ago. Once is not enough mate :) Your car should be super-quick with the current setup.
