Hi All,
Just got back from a recent holiday and my wife and I have noticed that there is a 'whine' coming from the auto at low speeds (guess we don't notice it at higher speeds). Its not loud, but you can hear it.
The car has done 33,000 since new and as far as I know the transmission has not been serviced yet. I did see in the service manual that it should be every 60,000 or 36 months. The car was 3yrs old in July, so its now just over 3 1/2 years old now.
Anyone else have this and will a simple tranny service with new fluid and filter solve it?
Or might it be something else I need to look at (i.e. bearings, etc...)
Thanks in advance.

Is the wine at around 40km/h or so?

Ive had it since day one in the lower rev range.
Nothing to worry about :)

Ok, i have now decided its not from the tranny. Its only noticable when cold and it seems to be motor related. For example, when I'm travelling at 60kmh and put the tranny in 'N' and rev the motor solowly, the whine increases and decreases with the speed of the motor. Like I have said, it only happens when cold, so I am guessing either worn fan/alt belt, or a bearing in that area is starting to play up.

No, just the standard system from factory.

I finally found out what the whine was. The power steering was low on fluid and I guess their was cavitation from the pump due to air. Filled it up and now its all good again.
Which begs to ask this question. The car has always been serviced by Honda at the regular intervals, there are no leaks at all in the power steering system. The log books have been ticked off saying the checked and topped up fluids.
So how can the fluid reservoir be NEARLY empty of fluid. Yes, I should be checking more often, but if there are no leaks and the last service was 6 months ago, what am I paying money for......?????
dw, ur car just has just been secretly supercharged by ninjas... except it only works at low speeds. go figure

The dealer's Xmas party every year I'd say.
It isn't that un-common, there are those places around that get caught out occasionally.
S/H car we bought, Citroen Xsara had rear drums fail after only 3 months of ownership. Our mechanic showed me before he started work and the leak would have been there at the RWC check but wasn't even mentioned as viewed:thumbdwn:
Best advice from me would be just check all fluid levels and condition after each service, even to the extent of marking the oil filter to note if it gets replaced.
