Hey guys, Ive got a 94 model prelude. Ive been having this problem on and off for well over 6 months now and it really comes and goes at random times. The spedo will completely stop working. Sometimes when I take off it will be working for a few minutes and then all of a sudden the needle will just drop to 0. My rev meter will still work and thats how I judge the speed Im driving when this happens. Also when the spedo stops working the "S" for sports mode light (my prelude is an auto) will start flashing on my dash. Generally after 5-10 minutes the spedo will start working again and if it doesnt if I turn the ignition off and then back on it will start working again (although this doesnt always work).

The odd thing is it will go months without happening and then all of a sudden it will happen again. Has anybody else experienced this problem with their lude? and if so, did you figure out the cause?

Hey JamieP,

I had this problem with my lude. In the engine bay you will see a thick wire like hose with black rubber around it, it should be attached to the big air hose coming out of your PGM-FI and then leading down to the lower portion of your engine bay when your speedo stops working grab the lower bit of that thinner hose and push it down again, and your speedo should work because it has been re attached.

Your problem is that the clip holding it down into place has been broken so now if you hit a bump or speed it slips out of place and stops reading.

You need a new VSS. I have one of these and it works great. Don't worry about the year it says on it, they are all the same from 92-96.
