so this morning i picked up a set of integra blades. i got geed on painting them matte black + fixing the little gutter scratches on them. so at 3pm i got started.. and this is what ive done so far..........

shit you may need
-flat head screwdriver
-sandpaper wet/dry
-80 grit
-120 grit
-180 grit
-400 grit
-Primer
-Paint color of ur choice
-Newspaper/Marsking tape
-carbi cleaner

REMOVE THE WHEEL WEIGHTS FIRST! (if any...)

Ok first i cleaned all the wheels with carbi cleaner....

then got the 80 grit to sand down the larger scratches

then the 120 grit over the scratches

then a 180 grit over the entire wheel....

THIS TOOOK AGESSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

then i laid some newspapers

let out air on the tyres

put newspaper around it, taped up riped parts with marsking tape

finished primin them all ,,, then it got tooo dark! so ill spray the black on 2moz when der super dry!
:D :D :D :D

ok so i forgot to remove the weights.. :(

"The wheel weights are put on AFTER the tire is inflated while it is on a spin balancing machine. While there is a "special tool" for just this purpose (removing and installing the weights) they can be worked off with careful prying with a flat bladed screw driver. To reinstall them, make sure the "U" shaped clip that goes over the tire rim is not opened up, place the weight in the desired location, and then TAP it on over the rim of the wheel with a small hammer, or hammer and a small flat bladed screw driver placed where the weight meets the clip. (The "special" installation tool is essentially just a small hammer with a narrow head.)"

ok got the weights off... resanded those parts with 80 grit....wiped it down with a wet cloth. dryed it...then reprimered it...

Err... I noticed that the wheel rim weights are still on.

Then the next time you change tyres, they'll have to rebalance the wheels and pry off the weights and place new ones elsewhere on the rim. Then you'll have a couple of shiny spots where the old weights used to be.

Matt black? why? Blades look sweet all polished up, white would be good too. Black will just make them look alot smaller and shitter IMO anyway

does anyone ever paint the inside of the wheel or do they just leave it the other colour? i'm talking about the wheel seat and the rest of the rim besides the face.

that front wheel weight you can ask at the tyre shop not to have those.
they have the normal stick ons ones.

Lukey
28-01-2010, 11:37 AM
if the tyre shop is good, they will only need weights in the barrel of the wheel and not on the face.

Very nice DIY

It took me ages to do all the rims too lol (took about 2 rims per weekend)

Ever thought of putting clearcoat on it or you use the high temp spray can??

Finishes off so much better :)

yeah thats fair enough, my only concern would be that its the weakest point as it wasn't prepped properly for that paint might start to peel. but eh light sand and spray over it when it happens, its only the inside of the wheel not too many will see it at the end of the day. seeing so many people do this makes me wanna paint mine.
