Best Double sided tape?

Recently bought a mugen lip, and cause it doesnt use the factory supports, i needa screw from the sides, and need 2 use double sided tape for the centre...

I tried the generic 1's, does nothing, used sum 20 dollar 3m tape, even worst than the gereric tape....

Whats the best recommendation? And even better, where to buy it?

Hi there buddy, best of to go for the heavy duty double sided tape or super heavy duty.

As it can hold alot more compared to standard double sided tape, what i usually do is get wax & grease (autobarn) is clean the surface with that then wipe it off clean make sure you use 2 rags, 1 with wax and grease and one clean to wipe it off. And you must wipe it off quickly too as it will have build up then it will have dust. And dust will not help your double sided tape stick on properly.

This is what i use scotch super heavy duty and can be purchased from bunnings mate, i think it was $18. Since your putting a lip on it will be good if you can use silicone as well great stuff holds on like monkey grip :D

Not sure if its commercially available but try 3M VHB (very high Bond) tape.
Its pretty crazy stuff and 10x better than anything you could buy at the local hardware store. But like I said not sure if its commercially available. Call 3M

3M automotive grade double sided tape is without a doubt the best for automotive purposes. It's similar to the picture above, very very thin dark grey tape material, with a green protective tape.

I've not seen it retailed in any shops. Generally ordered through 3M distribution direct.

i'd had good experience with 3M also. but really depends what you use it for.

for something heavy like a lip, you cant really rely on tape? most of the support should be from the screws, with a little assistance with whatever else you need. In your case i'd recommend a tube of sikaflex from supercheap or bunnings.

brilliant stuff! stuck my number plate on my rear panel of my old 4x4 and it worked well. weatherproof etc.

got some tape from supercheapauto .. its in a clear and white packaging , very good shit when your using it in a stable temperature environment. in which case your not..

So as above.. so really be looking at some epoxy shitz or some strong glue .

yeah double sided tape is better for interior stuff. go for it. no, dont use liquid nails on your car pls...

You can't buy it retail. You'll have to buy it through a hardware construction distributor like Blackwoods. You could also get your local hardware store to order it in, but it won't be cheap.

An alternative is to buy 3M's Exterior Mounting Tape, which you can get from Bunnings. It is actually one of the many flavours of VHB that is available. It is the grey coloured tape with a red coloured liner backing. If you read the liner backing, it actually says 3M VHB. It comes only in 1" width, so if you want half the thickness, you'll have to cut it in half along its length.

They rely on VHB to hold the stainless steel panels on the Petronas Twin Towers in Malaysia. ehhehe

If you Can get hold of the clear tape from WURTH, that is the best double side tape we have ever used at the shop.
It's rated to hold 70kg from a 1cm squared piece.

What's the part number of that clear tape tape? Sounds interesting. I only managed to find Wurth Power Mounting tape (part no. 0894 909 004) which holds 17kg per meter (25mm width) and Wurth Double Sided Tape (0894 910 1) which seems to be only a stronger trim tape. Both are not clear.

Edit: Checked the US Wurth site and they list a Clear Double Sided Tape (part no 18944695). However, the adhesion strength is only 90 oz/inch which is 2.55kg per inch of 12mm wide tape (3 square cm).

thx guys, ill see if i can find the 1's u guys suggested, an if all fails, than back to the factory lip it is, as i dont like the idea of a lower lip hangin on jus a few screws

sikaflex a bit more practical for this purpose imo

just run some along the length of the lip where it meets your front bar and you'd be fine. get some masking tape or something to hold it in place when you're done whilst the sikaflex dries and gains more strength
