hi guys, thinking of doing a jdm b18cr swap onto my ek1 cxi hopefully this year when i have the $$, however just wondering if 4 stud brake setup would be sufficient to handle all that power output from the motor.

reason im asking is that im upgrading my rear drums to gli/ek4 rear discs soon, which is only 4 stud. would i be better off upgrading all round setup to 5 stud so i can get bigger brakes? or upgrading the brakes on a 4 stud setup would be sufficient?

this is keeping in mind that i will be doing some tracking as well once the motor is in.

thanks gais

Ahh pretty sure it would cause the jdm dc2r had 4 stud and it could support the power output.

No they're 4x114.3 making them 4 studs.

The stud number has absolutely nothing to do with brake performance.

You just need to have the right size/braking power for the weight/power output of the car, an engineer will easily be able to tell you what kind of brakes you need but it won't be all that drastic an upgrade.

oh i see. but then the next question is, is the 96-97 spec cr motor the same as the 98+ spec?

also, id be running 4x100, is there like a bigger rotor for 4x114.3 which wouldnt fit 4x100?

thanks guys, i know nothing about brakes :S

2 mins late lol, but i heard people do 5 stud conversions so they can get bigger rotors, so i assume more braking power?

It's just that 5 stud usually comes standard from cars like ITR/CTR that came standard with bigger brakes, but you could easily get 282mm rotors redrilled to 4x100 and use shaved ITR calipers so there's no conversion required.

Talk to an engineer, chances are your 262mm fronts are fine, the biggest problem I can see is the rear drums (which you are already upgrading to discs), so you might not need to upgrade at all.

FYI

For teh engine to be legal , the brakes must be the minimum size for that engine. The FRONTS must be 262mm atleast. These are teh standrad brakes off a DC2 , DC4 , EK4 , EM1 , EG6 and some EK1's

Rear discs too ( dont matter the size)

i run a b18c7 and using ek4 front brakes with ebc greenztuff pads. standard rear discs.

brakes had and fine.

Upgrade your brakes....IF you want a different wheel selection NOT for extra braking power.
