been on carsales for over a year
written off - pretty sure it can't be reregistered but i may be wrong
seats aren't dc2r recaros
anything else you'd like to know?
oh and if he spins some bullshit about it being written off because the seats are stolen, i'm pretty sure that would be a 'repareable writeoff' whereas this is a complete write off.
i actually know about a couple of the itrs for sale atm so hit me up if you want to know about any of the interstate ones.

for that much money i guarantee you you won't be getting a perfect one.
you've gotta decide what you will settle for and wat you won't settle for.
will you settle for scuffy paint, problems with the gearbox, high ks, no service history?
because you will have to settle for one of them

noobcake
24-01-2010, 08:28 PM
Wait how would reporting the police work (no flaming just asking) cause its a statutory write off?

that might be a very good deal BUT:
a very good condition white dc2r will sell for over 20 grand, and the fact of the matter is that it is a limited edition australian delivered car. give it about 5 years and dc2rs in good condition will be worth more than dc5rs - a LOT more

Yeah i know man a nice VTIR will even do for me hopefully i find one on the web somewhere after i get my Ls.

spoke to him, saw the car, didn't take it for a test drive.
he's a very nice guy.
the car does not have the integra type r silver badge plate on the centre console underneath the car. call honda, make sure it actually is an integra type r. the engine is a b18c7 from memory (integra type r engine) but check that as well. the body was very scuffed, but as far as crashes go i'm not sure (it doesn't look crashed, but hey i'm no expert). i didn't drive it so i can't tell you anything more detailed

CB7_OWNER

check teh vin, matches with the engine number,
make sure all panels line up
make sure bolts have not been moved (you can see marks if they have usually)
check for dodgy resprays..

Suss all the shit out first!, if something random pops up.. like a bonnet/panel/door has been replaced. and your sure of it.. ask the seller if its been in accident or if its had any body work done. if he answers untruthfully and tries to cover it up.. then GTFO lol.

i think a few years back stat write offs were still register-able without any problems. i could be wrong.

Most cop shops wouldnt do anything about the car.

@OP dont buy the car you originally posted nomatter how cheap it is. (Unless he sells it for like $10, then maybe.

Guys you gotta give the DC2's some credit,
its been a good 10 years for most of the DC2R's!
A little more over 10 years for the VTi-R's and GSI's

So sometimes unless the owner hardparks or doesnt drive it daily
the car's paint and panels may be out of whacked just due to daily driving
and Heat exposure, Just make sure you look it over properly!

And usually bargains are a bit suss, but sometimes are real bargains!
Just play it smart, dont be an idiot and you'll be right.

You'll just have to be patient and keep looking. The thing with sites like carsales is that good cars appear and get snapped up in as little as a week, while crap cars (like that dodgy white DC2R) stay there for as long as a year or more.

I logged in almost daily and waited for close to 6 weeks when I was searching for a car on carsales before a decent one appeared there for sale that was good enough for my standards.

Under $15K you can get a good 1999-early2000 DC2 VTi-R, as long as the seller doesn't have some delusion of grandeur. There are still clueless/greedy people trying to flog DC4 GSi's for more than $10K.

Just adding to what someone said earlier- info from the vicroads site:

Statutory write-off
A vehicle that is recorded as a statutory write-off after 1 May 2002, cannot be re-registered and the vehicle identification number (VIN) cannot be reused.

A vehicle will be recorded as a statutory write-off if it is a total loss and so severely damaged that it should not be repaired. Only certain parts from statutory write-offs may be used to repair other vehicles.

To the OP,

Have you thought about looking for a car interstate? There's a few here in Sydney going for very reasonable prices. Sometimes it's more fruitful searching outside your state for exactly what you're after; it's a purchase you'll be stuck with for awhile to come.
My mate flew to QLD, bought the car he wanted and drove 12 hours home. I guess just remember to leave enough cash left over for re-registering the car in your state!

05-02-2010, 11:36 PM
Milano Red is a bitch of a colour...
Cut n Polish doesn't fix the job... it just buffs it out, 3-4 months later the fade comes out..
If the paint is still not faded.. make sure she's either Waxed once/twice a week or garaged full time...
This will keep the paint in good nick..

another theory of why it is, could be cos its a rebirth.
a pretty good one where they would take everythings out of a full fked up dc2r and put it into another integra shell. then cut, grind, weld certain panels onto that integra shell so the numbers and everything would still be there.
u'd be amazed how talented some old skool panel beaters are.

What is the actual value of a dc2 type r these days anyway? I did a redbook value and they were valued between 11-15k yet ppl are knocking them off for 18k+ with high kms! High km's to me is anything over 100000km :D

anything higher should be in the dc5 range.

a thrashed not so good cond will be under 15k, decent cond under 18k, all depends stock stand or with mods etc.

also just because of the high kms doesn't mean the car is in bad cond, I bought mine with 150ks, and it was extremely clean.
