View Full Version : Injen CAI in Oz Euro

jolt
03-12-2004, 12:40 AM
I just picked up my parcel from customs with my Injen CAI inside!! :D

Exquisite workmanship and I'm very keen to get it fitted to the Euro to see what sort of difference it makes.

Has anybody else fitted one to an Oz Euro before, is there anything to watch out for? I have found these instructions on the web (http://www.pryor-place.com/honda/TSXInjenCAI_DIY.htm) for fitment to a US TSX by removing the wheel arch rather than the front bar, so I won't bother putting together my own install guide but I will keep an eye out for any differences due to our RHD configuration.

One minor difference will be the fitment of an AEM bypass valve in between the two Injen pipes, replacing the supplied Injen rubber coupler. My wife drives the Euro most of the time and there is no way that she would compromise and keep out of deep puddles in the rain, so I thought I would get one of these just to be on the safe non-hydrolocked engine side of things.

http://tsx.acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7917&highlight=coolant+bypass
I will also be carrying out this throttle body coolant bypass mod which I have already completed on my MX5. I have no idea whether this really provides any benefit, but two things I know for sure are that in Australia there is virtually no risk of the throttle body sticking unless you're in one of the few places where it snows and it's virtually free. ;)

Congrats.

You gonna do a before and after dyno run?

jolt
03-12-2004, 01:01 AM
I haven't done a "before" dyno run, but once I have completed the mod's I will be getting it dyno'd to see what increases have been achieved. Final list of mod's will be:

1. Injen CAI
2. AEM bypass valve (shouldn't affect power)
3. Hondata intake manifold heatshield gasket
4. Throttle body coolant bypass mod
5. V-AFC II
6. ?? NGK iridiums and silicon spark plug leads ??
7. ?? DC Sports/Comptech header ??

Mod 7 is a maybe, but I won't ever be changing the standard mufflers because there is nothing worse than the sound of an automatic gearbox slopping between the gears with a loud exhaust droning away.

The ignition system (mod 6) is something that I haven't looked into at all yet ... not sure what ignition system the car even runs to be honest. Can anybody shed some light on this? Any proven gains from mod's?

If someone is happy to come along when I get the "after" dyno done with their standard automatic Euro, I will happily pay for their dyno run just to have that point of comparison.

Anybody in Sydney interested? I'll try to get it done on a weekend.

thanks
Rod

You should do before and after dyno run. It be interesting to compare the figures.

jolt
03-12-2004, 07:50 AM
By having someone there with another auto Accord Euro but in standard form it should achieve the same comparison. In fact I think that having two cars dyno'd within 30 minutes of each other should give a more accurate comparison than dyno'ing the same car but at least a day, more likely a few weeks apart.

Unless you have really small girly hands, you might have to pull off the front bar a bit on the left hand side. The front bar is only cliped on underneath, it just pulls out at the top, like underneath the headlights. Room is tight to undo one friggin bolt on the resonator. Getting the resonator out of the front can be a pain in the ass, but the pieces pull apart. The wheel arch and front bar are only held on by plastic clips. I had to pryse them out with a small screw driver and they came out easy enough.

I found it much easier to pull the whole battery out, this gives you heaps more room to work with.

It only took about an hour to pull all the shit out and fit, but time flys when you are having fun! One tip, don't let your girly watch you do it, she will cry and think you are going to destroy the car.

By having someone there with another auto Accord Euro but in standard form it should achieve the same comparison. IMO not necessarily. Even if they are the same cars, their dyno result can differ somewhat. As these mods won't give you huge difference in power relative to mods like putting in a turbo for example, the most accurate would be to dyno the before and after of the same car. But, if you can't be bothered or circumstances doesn't allow you to do that, who cares. :p

Do you mind if I ask you how much it cost you to get Injen CAI from the US and where you got it from?

jolt
03-12-2004, 12:57 PM
I got it through ebay from www.streetlightz.com (http://www.streetlightz.com) and I was VERY lucky to get out of paying customs on it. It got held up there, but I managed to talk my way out of it.

Price was US$240 plus shipping costs of US$55 so just under A$400 landed. I was also able to get Hondata gaskets (one for my MX5 too) and some ricey Spoon socks as part of the package for additional cost but not much more shipping.

Hope that helps, attention your emails to Andy and tell them that Rod Wilson recommended him, so he sees a thread of interest coming from Australia.

thanks
Rod

Congratulations on ur buy... The injen CAI is definetly worth the buy... Once its installed and the vtec kicks in it screams big time...

The Injen CAI is a bit hard to install...

The instructions that were given looks a breeze but in reality it is quite hard. Took me 4 hours total time to install it and that is for the short ram part. I haven't even bothered putting the other piece of pipe to it to make it a true CAI.

I probably would do it in a few weeks time because i already asked the panel beaters to take off the resenator airbox when fitting my new bumper...

A word of advice Jolt there is one tube that u have to swap and if u don't swap it quickly the radiotor fluid will start leaking out. I found out the hard way hehehehe... The K&N CAI is so much easier to install... The Injen u have to take out hoses here and there and swap it around....

Hope u enjoy ur new toy for the euro. Remember what injen guarantee's its dynoproven to produce the most HP from any CAI setup :D ...

Four hours just to set it up as a SRI?!?! That's a bloody long time!! I'll have to check out how long it takes me to fit it.

Will write back with a report on how the fitting went assuming I get time to do it this weekend.

and the NGK iridiums spark plug... where did u get it??

Thx

jolt

Sorry Learner, but I only meant that as a mod I was thinking about, I haven't got any spark plugs or leads yet.

I'll let you know as soon as I work out if there is anything available.

Noel on tsxclub.com has fit Denso Iridium IK24 spark plugs to his Euro.

I don't know whether it is worth changing plugs - the OEM are platinum. If you have money to burn - go for it.

Injen has been fitted in Sort Ram Mode

so easy, no shit it took me 45mins to do.
Performance seems better, but sound is unreal.

Got a freakin headach and dont wanna rush things, so CA extension will be tommorow.

One question for those that have installed one, the throttle body coolant pipe is attached to the pvc pipe.
Now when the injen is installed the metal pipe for pvc valve is no longer used. Does that just sit there and do nothing now?

Im suprised Injen just dont make a "u" shaped connector and do away with the TB connecter and pvc connector.
Anyways pics to come of the peice i mean

Pics will come soon.. imageshack wasn't working.

nice timbo!
im guessin u havent removed the resonater yet

PERTH_EURO
25-05-2005, 07:31 PM
ok all done now

Stephen i didnt remove the bumber completely. Just the passangers side.
It gave me enough room to get to the 3 bolts that hold the resonator in.

I didn't remove wheel, but turned it to full lock and one by one removed the little plastic clips and bolts as i felt play in the bar i just kept undoing until the bar "popped out" below the headlight. It took a bit of a pull but no problems.

It is easy as to get to 2 of the 3 bolts, dont have to remove bar for that.
Its the 3rd one at the front that is a biatch. The three u need to remove are a goldy colour.

If you manage to get the bar out, the 3rd (front) bolt is easy to get to.
If u undo the ones that are easy to get to, the resonator comes apart. Remove that bit and wiggle the bit left behind, that will give u an idea where the 3rd screw is. (top left as you look at side of car)

Its hard to explain, but not overy hard to do.
BE PATIENT AND GENTLE!!

(the above probably doesnt help I know, but its hard to explain and camera had flat battery)

If you have a look at the dyno sheets at:

http://www.injen.com/webpages/testing/original_files/rd1430.gif

and

http://www.kandn.com/dynocharts/69-0025.jpg

you can maybe get a vague comparison between the two units. I realise that they're different cars, in different conditions, on different dynos, and are each accordingly showing different peak power outputs.

What you can roughly compare, however, is the increase over the stock run:
K&N gives a total rise of 7.69 hp, whereas the Injen gives a rise of 11.1 hp.

That's if I'm reading things right.

In the real world, that's bugger all. Unfortunately, the K&N doesn't give a torque reading, which would give a better idea.

The Comptech icebox (http://www.comptechusa.com/store/tsxdyno.html) gives a peak increase of 5.6 hp.

These are just the peaks -- no indication of of increases in the rest of the range...

Hi guys,
A bit of an intro, name is James, driving a 04 manual lux euro with gunmetal 18s. Never thought I would mod this car (Nissan S15 was my previous ride) until a month back when I 'think' I heard an euro with a pod.
I've just started to look at mods for the euro (springs, intake, grill and maybe full exhaust) and was wondering for the Injen intake,

1. Can I buy and use the "INJEN Cold Air Intake 04-05 Acura TSX" or is there a different model for our aussie spec?
2. Will the kit include the optional pipes to go either SRI or CAI?

Thanks in advance for your help, cheers!

1. Yeah its a direct fit
2. you can use 1 half of the pipe and go SRI or extend it and go CAI.
