i asked this in civic forum but no one has any info

i have been doing some reading around on the net and i see a post here and there that you can drop a D16A6 cam straight into a D15B7 as a small upgrade

does anyone have any more information on this ... because if it is that easy than im going to go hunt one down right now lol

apparently all you need is an adjustable cam gear to retard it by 4.75 degrees

so how would i go about changing the cam and dialing it in

i can get a cam gear easy enough but i have no idea where to get the cam from

apparently the z6 intake manifold is a good upgrade as well ... is it worth bothering with it?

i think the reason im not getting a response on this is that honda never released that motor over here in aus

i have tracked a cam down in USA so stay tuned for a write up on how i go with it

thinking skunk2 adjustable cam gear to retard the cam as well - relativly cheap and good quality - is there much difference between pro and tuner?

OMG.JAI xD

d15b7 is a SOHC ( single over head cam)
d16a8 is a DOHC (dual over head cam)

I have very big doubts about swapping cams. And even if this is possible. You are better off getting an aftermarket cam with better duration and lift.
This way you still retain your mechanical timing.
Retarding or advancing mechanical timing to make an engine operate does not sound very healthy. Unless you have something like 280 degree cams operating at idle.

Dialing in cams is not as easy as bolt in bolt out. You have to remember that in a SOHC engine, any adjustments done to cam timing effects both the intake and exhaust side respectively.

If you want the most gain you follow the steps.
Make the engine breathe properly. Power is not the amount of mods you put in, or how big of a part you have. Its about getting it right. An engine is only an air pump after all.
All you need is air and fuel. The more air an engine can put into the combustion chamber, the more fuel can be burnt. Which in turn, leads to more power.

In reality though. Power (hp or kw) is really nothing without torque.
You can produce heaps of power with little torque.

would like to see how this goes, was looking at changing my d15b7 cams to the d16a6 ones a while back... Although didnt know you had to retard timing....

btw some guy on youtube put a exospeed cam into his d15b7, sounds cool.

cant say i like the idle, apparently the A6 cam idles a little higher than stock ... not lower or lumpier but meh

his car sounds awsome ... very nice for a d15b7 =D

dunno if this engine is really worth bolt on mods... Think about it, honda built this engine with economy and reliability in mind.. Not like a s2000 or type r which honda built for performance..

d series are pretty dead for mods unless u put a little forced induction through the system..

am planning on just driving my eg8 around, then buy another eg sedan, and full house k20 in it..major sleeper, but oem and neat

iv already done up a Integra VTIR and a WRX ... this car is just my run about and its really fun to tinker on - for how cheap the parts are to do these mods and how much fun i get out of it i think its worth it ... its a revvy little engine and i love driving it but i agree ... no power at all

my next real $$$$ project will be a 2006 Forester XT with STI gear - sleeper ftw =)
