Hey, just wondering, When the car is idling there is like a suction/ air escaping noise, however when clutch is fully depressed, the noise disappears.

thinking might be a Transmission bearing, but need some other idea's. Thanks.

Sounds like a clutch throw-out bearing to me.

yep Thrust bearing.

cheap and easy to replace.

If it is the throwout bearing wouldn't the noise be evident when the clutch pedal is pushed IN?

not initially, once there completley gone there is noise all the time regardless of clutch in or out

when the thrust bearing died in my old eg it had no bearing noise when clutch is pressed but noisy as when out and idling in neutral.

old mechanics trick to amplify bearing noise with manual trans is to gently hold a peice of A4 paper on the shifter with the motor running.
For some reason it makes it louder :S

thanks, Ill take my car to the mechanic and confirm the problem on monday.

Whats the estimated price if it is the bearing?

Probably a new clutch kit! The gearbox has to be removed, you might as well change the entire clutch kit and have the flywheel machined at the same time as the throw-out bearing are usually supplied with the clutch kit.

I would budget between $800.00 to $1200.00 for the job.
