ey i was just wondering how much more work would be involved in order to put a h22a into an ek9 as oppose to a b18c i know that the b18c is roughly the same size as the b16a (just a tiny bit higher) so it would fit in nicely, but i couldnt find much on h22a conversions, are they significantly harder?

why would you put a h22a into an ek9?
throwing away a b16b engine

B16B is just a de-stroked B18C pretty much lol

Build the B :D

Keep the b16b box. Put the h22a euro R engine in.

Do an all motor h2b setup.

just think about it
swap from b series to b series or swap from b series to h series, which one do you think is easier?

ye i know its easier but i just want to know how MUCH harder putting a h22a in would be compared to a b18c ie is it worth the gain you get from the extra torque output of the h22a?

so many people underestimate the H series motor sure there isnt as much aftermarket support as there is for b series and what not but they are great motors and built right they are animals. the h series is quite alot more work to fit then a b series as it was never designed to go into the chasis you will need to purchase mounts get a conversion harness etc. if you need more information regarding the swap feel free to pm.

H22a has really good gains
have done many but, alot of draw backs as wel though. Do h2b set up if your set on doing a h swap if not h2b then i wouldnt do it at all.

alot of info on here regarding h swaps into civics 96-00, alot of Brisbane guys have done them

one thing to note, header clearance...

another thing to note is handling, h22 is considerably heavier then any of your d16/b16. i havent driven a h22 civic but i hear they have handling problems...you can get mounting kits to change the positioning of the engine to fix some of these handling problems but its not gonna be as good as the handling in a b series swap

^ myth.

they're only like 20-30kg heavier
it's the position of the motor which messes with the handling, not the weight

edit; a whole 15.8kg heavier (http://www.honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=684550&highlight=h22+weight+myth)

^^^

Especially in the wet, according to a couple of OzHonda members who have done the swap. You need good tyres and sussy if you wanna drive it in anything but a straight line pretty much...

if ur after Hseries There is no room for the power steering section to remain on the crank pulley. People with dc and ek chassis' have to shave the powersteering groove off the pulley. As a matter of fact, any h2b peeps must have that shaved off. unless u cut into your frame rail which alot of people do anyway and then weld a plate inside of it giving you room to leave that groove on.

Other than that, another option would be to run it off the same belt as the alternator. But that would require a custom powersteering pump bracket. It would need to be moved inwards toward the headers about an inch or so.

another thing u will want to do is switch the factory alternator/tensioner bracket kit out of the h22 to a custom relocation kit which u will need to buy (few places i think not too sure tho quater sports make them and explict speed performance make them jst google to check em out if u r serious) this will save weight n free up space that with a combination of a D series alternator, Y? it is smaller and lighter, smaller pulley, smaller belt, 3 ribbed instead of 6 has less drag. that n also removal of balance shafts with a freeze plug that u got to buy as well

dats as much as i no about the h swap but u want to do this only if u intend on drag racing, a H in a civic IMO is not a circuit car, and if u r a h2b boy the kits for these swaps are ment for drag use only but on the bright side u got ur self a 2.2l vtec with a closer ratio b series box combined with lsd is perfect

wow thanks for all the information and replies guyz this really does clear up a few things, id much rather have my car as a circuit car as opposed to a drag car, not too keen on losing any handling, i think ill go with a b series swap, thanks every1!

handling hasnt been an issue in my buddies ej8, apart from not having rear discs, def get rear disc brakes if you don't already :)
