View Full Version : [CL9] Should I sell my auto for a manual?

hey guys, im going through the stages of manual transmission withdrawals, i miss driving manuals, i bought my euro with a 5 speed auto and i reckon its a very nice gearbox no doubt about it apart from its typical auto power loss, some really smooth changing, but i still feel a sense of no control.

my question is would it be worth it to sell up and upgrade to a 6MT? .i have only owned the accord euro for 10 months, but still cant decide weather to go for a 6mt.

also my euro is a standard so i would like to step up to a Luxury :P. so would it be worth the extra few thousand to jump up to a 6mt luxury

FYI- i am on my green P's but i get my opens in March.

your input would be appreciated :)

at the end of the day the choice is up to you. Make sure when you do so ur commited to it. I love manuals too and would never go back to auto. If i was gonna sell my auto Euro now i'd probly get a manual in a different car not the same car.

Just my 2 cents

I've had my manual since 2004 and now have a company car which is auto. I still prefer my manual, even in a traffic jam!

yeah my main concern is will i regret buying the same car but with just a manual transmission?, i really enjoy driving the euro! i feel a manual would top it off :) ahhhh decisions :S

If you can afford it do it.It's a different car in a manual. The manual really suits the engine. Also 2nd.hand there's not much difference in $$$ for a lux.So yea go for it.:D

A 6MT Euro is over a second quicker then an Auto to 100kms/hr as an added benefit too.

How much extra will you be out of pocket by going from your base auto to a lux manual? If it is under $2000, I reckon it is quite worth it if you can drive stick decently. I've driven a few auto Euros, but they just don't compare to a manual. But if you are out of pocket by too much, then it might not be that worth it anymore. :)

If you love the Euro and you want manual, why not? Personally, I'd save extra and get something like the 6 MPS :)

+1 go the manual! The 6MT and engine combo in the CL9 Euro is bliss.

I've got an auto lux and had trouble finding one because all the ones for sale were manuals. Should have no trouble finding a manual at the right price. As for me, I love the auto and wouldn't change it - I've got an 8 tonne truck and that's all manual changing I need.

The manual Euro is more fun to drive. It's got a very nice, smooth gearbox. I've got an auto one now cause my wife drives it too. With a lot of mods my auto is faster than a stock manual (low 7s 0-100km/h) but it's still not as involving as a stick shift car. Granted it will never really be a sports car, whichever transmission you choose.

my mum owns the auto, I drive the manual. I'd prefer my car in any conditions any day of the week. that's because I like driving.

it's really up to you!

the luxury is heavier, but IMO the extras are worth it given the small price difference with the standard car.

buy my luxury manual! LOL

This is the same issue that i was going through a few months back. I have an 04 auto lux but wanted to go for an 06 lux manual with satnav. The price difference isnt too much of an issue, but the thought of spending the extra money to get almost the identical car with different transmission just doesnt do it for me.

My next car will probably be a manual, but i dont think i will spend the money just to change to a manual cl9, i'll save up for the next car thanks :D

I've got a lux manual myself and have driven two other lux autos and I can assure you that the manual is a lot more fun to drive! using the auto in that tiptronic mode doesnt give you any where near the response you get on the manual.. although the auto box is very nice and smooth.

Go the manual if you're looking to have a bit more fun in the car, euro second gear = win :)

I'm actually thinking of doing the exact same thing and upgrading my plain auto 03 model with injen cai for a lux 05-06 model (white preferably.. they look hawt)

Probably be another year or so till I can think about upgrading as my current euro is only a month old in my hands but because I learnt driving in manual first go, I get that urge to use stick over.. bored left hand?? haha

I'd say go for it :D

Oh and before u do, sell ur car with stock bits and take ur mods off and put em on ur new car !

i agree 2nd gear is amazing coz once your done in 2nd gear, you kno your doin about 100km.....perfect for intering freeways ;)

i've driven an auto euro and yeah smooth but i lik the manual more, if i ended up with an auto i would of probably changed to either a manual euro or something lik an mps6 by now. but for now i will stick with my euro and save that mps6 for may be later :p

in the end just depends what you want:thumbsup:

in my opinion if your gona get your full license that soon, wait and grab a turbo man, coz if u upgrade now, ull end up saying shit should've atleast owned a turbo car.. tried it out.

But if not might aswell go for the upgrade to the manual, and if yours is standard definately upgrade to the luxry.

haha exact same issue here, i've got an auto 07 limited, and really want a manual but not worth selling to get the exact same car, might as well save and get a turbo or a more sports oriented car.

TBH I see no point having a manual unless you're driving a sports car, which a Euro, unless modded heavily, is not IMO :) Auto for me.

i got a cl9 manual lux, it is the best manual car compare what I had drive before. only i don't like is the 1st gear is too wide. but I don't go to the same car just from auto to manual. will you like the new euro? that is nice car too.

well good luck sodhi90! ;)

man i have the same colour euro as you and also in auto :( ... i have been thinking the last few days whether i should sell up and get a manual euro and do some work on it.... OR get something that is faster like a rex or evo (i want sedan).

But looking online and thinking abt it more, i just cant live with the poor interior in those cars. The euro (although not the best), has a very nice interior and its just such a pleasure to sit in. If only we had the acura TL in oz, i would sell up for a tl-s for sure! (but then again, still auto lol)

I think my new plan is to keep the auto euro for another 1-2 years, spend minimal on mods, possibly just swaybar and then switch to a golf gti (at least it's semi practical)

golf gti is a nice car too! But a bit small for my liking. If only we got the is350, that would be perfect for me. Other car that im looking into is the 335i although i dont want to spend that much on cars right now. Have a few investment plans in mind and engagement.

So my plan is to keep the euro for the next few years then move onto something with more power but same practicality without looking like a boy racer :)

havent driven a manual cl9 but just having that extra gear would be worth the swap. 2nd gear on auto is a mission. ive had 3manual tegs and as much as the at box is good as far as honda at's go, manual over auto anyday if you got choice.

haha I was looking at the 135i but I'm still a student and only start working next year..plus to be honest I've been thinking, rather spend my money travelling and on investments. A golf gti swap would only cost me maybe $5-10k out of pocket, a 135i would be like $40k+ lol not sure whether it'll be $30k worth more fun

try investing $10k in options, a 135i might come true if you get into the right trend and time :) i got my cl9 from options trading.

haha and potentially turn into $0k as well, I don't know much about the investment markets, sticking to property for now since I have SLIGHTLY more familiarity with that atm

that's very true! $10k could become $0, or even minus, or $100k+ during a big swing to your favour. or, if you know an insider, you can really hit a jackpot in overnight if you bought heaps of options in a company about to get taken over. i heard someone bought half of Lihir Gold's share options the day before it announced a takeover bid and made almost a million bucks in a day (i think the person will be investigated though..) it's really like online casino for those investment bankers and traders, just a bit more sophisticated than pure probability and luck.

yeah im doing it safe as well, im investing in property and buying my own home :s

Not familiar with shares and im not bothered to put that much time into it. Been saving my butt off. Been working during uni to spend on the car and gf, and ive been working full-time for a bit over a year and now my partner and i are ready to build our future - hopefully :p

I'd love to stick with honda for the next car, as long as they make a more sporty sedan then im all for it. :D
