Could I machine my aftermarket flywheel?

Just wanted to know if its safe to do so

Depends on what type of flywheel you have.
Dual mass flywheels are practically impossible to machine.
Solid flywheels can be machined.
Some lightened flywheels are just solid flywheels with some material removed while others are the two piece steel/aluminium style.
Some of these flywheels can be machined, while others can't because surface grinding usually takes place on a revolving magnetic base, therefore if there's no steel, (i.e the flywheel is mostly aluminium) the flywheel cannot be held firmly.
