Recently tried swapping out my front brake pads to find that they didnt fit. I drive an EG5 vti.

Got a mate to take a look and he informed me that the pads I have in at the moment are EG4 pads, and thus i have EG4 brakes.

Is it illegal to have brakes on your car that are of lesser ability / quality than oem brakes?

I bought the car from a caryard, and im wondering, if it is illegal for this to happen, then I've been sold a defective vehicle. If that's the case, what are my options?

Cheers

eg4 front brakes are the same as eg5 front brakes dude. 242mm discs.
the problem is , the pads might be to suit different calipers....(EG5 vti , Si , GLi etc)

Hmm interesting. why would they use a different caliper? Any benefit to it?

nfi. there is a few different caliper sizes and types in the 242 and 262mm ranges.....for example , the EK4 has same 262mm discs but different calipers to a DC2 , EG6 or EM1 etc.

Most listings are wrong from suppliers, as the "europe" listing for a EG6 is a EG VTI, not a SIR/II like in Japan.

All AUS spec EG civics (except the EG6) had 242mm rotors afaik.
And the pads are DB1259**

Unless there were some late 1995 which had ABS, then maybe they might have
262mm rotors.

maybe even thou different cars use the same disc, e.g. the 262mm rotor, may need different calipers to work ABS system? or is matched to a different type of brake master cylinder from different models of cars?

just a thought.
