Well I did some research before I thought of making a thread but I can't find the info's.

But anyways when the air filter was dirty my vtec kicked in from about 4,500rpm,

Now that I've cleaned the filter (with the cleaning spray thingy then the oil after) the vtec now kicks in about from 5,000-5,500rpm (rough idea but it did change)

Should I be worried?? Or is it normal? Because I thought the quicker the vtec kicks in the better.

Sorry for the nooby question but I'm worried.

if you have a vtir the first runner opens at 4,500rpm then vtec kicks in at 5,500rpm

Are you saying exhaust side first at 4400rom then intake side at 5500rpm ???

no, vtec which activates both intake and exhaust cam change is at approx 4400 rpm, where the secondary butterflies which are the shorter inlet manifold runner throttles open at approx 5500 rpm....

i heard there was 2 type of vtec's, one is VTE and one is VTO. If im wrong, vte engages first around 3000 - 4000rpm then vto engages 5000-6000. Vto is the one that sounds like "vtec" when vte just sounds like throttle based one..

Where did you hear that? lol

There are different types of vtec in different engines, biased toward performance or economy (eg; vtec, vtec-e, i-vtec)

Well i heard it from a mechanic in indo, my dad's good friend.. Don't take it to the heart though coz im not real sure my self.. I know theres different vtecs in hondas, but saying as a basic vtec - B16a for eg. Inside the "vtec" has 2 parts, vte and vto. And like i said, vte doesnt sound much of what you call "vtec" its just a tiny boost, it is usually shown in vtec controllers (thats what he said) but cannot be felt inside the car, but it does exist. Where, VTO is the "VTEC KICK IN YO" people going crazy about.. lol

BUT.

i may be wrong.
