Hey All,

Has anyone had any issues with their CV Joints? Or at least I suspect that's what it is since something goes "clunk clunk" when i steer while driving. Can't hear it while stationary though. I've taken a quick look but can't see anything obvious. I'm at 45,000kms, 2006 FD2

The reason I listed the FD1 is because I don't think there are any differences to the joints between the two models.

Anyone? I'd like to avoid going to Honda for a warranty job since chances are they'll just say it's wear and tear and charge me $900 (that seems to be the magical number to fix anything these days). Everything with the car is stock standard.

Worn out CV joints within the warranty period sound like something Honda should be fixing at their cost to me. CV joints are not considered 'consumable' items as far as I'm aware. They are part of the drivetrain and should be treated like any other mechanical aspect of the car.

Ring or go their and show them.

^yeah that.

a clutch is a wear n tear item - t's supposed to break. i don't think cv's are supposed to.

there is a chance that Honda will refuse to fix the CV joints under warranty if the car is lowered, when the car is lowered, it puts more pressure on the cv joints, so it tends to wear out, it can be fixed by re-conditioning at the cost of around 150 per side.

hmm, i dont like the sound of the cv joints being rooted when your car is lowered...

The car's not lowered at all. All stock standard and type pressure at 32psi as per car specs.
So it's not a wear and tear item? What do you think would cause the CV joint to break? I've known a few cars to have problems with these joints, and they're not cheap to fix.

Has anyone had this problem before? Or ever had to have it fixed?

they are quite cheap to fix, about 60 each side as long as you dont have to replace it. They normally put an universal cv boot and grease it..
