hi,

i reacently just bought a 99 Civic cxi 2Dr.

i came with a POD filter, but other then that it was stock.

i put a 2inch, sports exhaust into a cannon on it already.

basically i was just wondering if there is any generally inexpensive mods a can do to gain more power?

Thanx.

basically work on the idea of getting the engine to breathe better.. your half way there with the zorst and filter.. maybe a set of extractors as well..
if you are a die hard power fanatic you could start pulling off fan belts for your aircon ect if you dont want it and fitting smaller pulleys for the other things..
personally id just save the money and do an engine conversion..

When i got the exhaust i was supposed to be getting extractors as well. The i got a call saying the only extractors for the 99 civic is for the v-tec engine and there is no such thing as 1.6L non vtec extractors? i didnt beleive it then and i cant beleive it now??? true or false?

not sure about extractors.. there would have to be someone that makes them.. just ring around..
and taking air con off isnt to do with weight reduction.. having the aircon hooked up robs you of 5-10% of your power more if you actually have it on!!!

not 100% sure, but the CXi d16 and the Vti d16 should be the same port size so you should be able to use them? dont quote me on it tho, find out 100% first

I have a set of extractors on my d16y VTi, so you can get them, they make a difference in my opinion. I bought mine from Liverpool exhausts in Sydney.

IM not 100%, but am pretty sure that most D-series extractors are all intechangeable to some extent. But any extractors made for a Vti D16y8 should most definatly fit your cxi D16y4.

As for some inexpensive mods. You could advance your ignition timing which may yeild 1 or 2 hp. Just search on how to do that.

Weight reduction is a free modification that allows quicker acceleration and is a substitute for power gains. The only downside is the ugly appearence of the inside of your car due to panel removal ect.

I think there is a set for $450 in the sale site. The mugen style one for the D series have a look at the thread. You could always get a custom set of extractors but then it might not be worth it. Maybe go Turbo, as i've seen a few other do or a B16a.

Also try running some better oils a 5-30w Mobile 1 or Castrol R. That should give you a few more Kw.

Light weight, for power to weight ratio.

with the extractors most exhaust places just use xforce ones, if they dont have it for ya car a good exhaust place will be able to make a custom set for you.
i had a quote on mine for $550 if that helps

lightened flywheel and an organic hd clutch would be a nice little mod if your current clutch is on its way out...

Above anything else , for the amount of money spent - these mods ( lightened flywheel and nice heavy duty clutch) would probably make the most noticeable different to your cars performance.

No , not any more power - but revability + driveabilty :)

Reduce weight and buy 2nd nos kit. Around $600-700. You will get surprise.

He is talking about inexpensive mods to make more power.

$550 for extractor = 3-5kw at the wheel
$600-700 for 2nd nos = 30-50kw at the wheel

Any mods are illegal. Who care??

it performs better, thus 'freeing' up hidden kW.
i think thats what he means.

I think so, better engine oil will give you more kw from the hidden kw.

hidden kw...hmm, I think alot of mine are hidden :D

Make sure your pod is mounted properly and shielded from actualy sucking in HOT air...make a surround for it if you have DIY skills, or im sure they sell pod surrounds.

Sorry for the hijack, anyone suggest a good place/brand of extractors for the D16A8 ?

For honda, almost nothing is cheap :(
You basically got the cheapest mod done already.
