would the R18A1 i-vtec, out of a 2006 honda civic work and fit into a honda crx? and would it be an ideal engine swap?, if it's possible.

anything is possible with money (keyword there being money). honestly, why would you want to? the specs arent impressive and the R-series doesnt have much after market support AFAIK

a far cheaper option is obviously a b-series swap. its been done a million times into a CRX and yields far more power; 141kw for AUDM Type R as opposed to 103kw for the R18A

Yeah it's not worth it. You'd pay a lot of money for a modern engine like that going into a CRX chassis.

Go B16A even, that'd give you more HP. B18C is same displacement but much better for entertaining driving :)

people are swapping K's so i don't see why an R swap wouldn't be possible. i also don't see why you'd bother.

yeh thanks guys, it's just i don't know much about the engine specs and stuff and was wondering if it'd be ideal. i've seen an engine on sale and i don't have alot of paper as would be needed ( i presume ) but if it's fuel efficient and stuff then yeh, to me it'd be okay. i just needed peoples opinions and insight. thanks.

Nup don't bother with it. That'd be a swap for the sake of swapping

would anyone know how much it would cost, or a honest estimate? i won't pursue the idea, but any estimates ?

lol you don't do engine swaps for fuel efficiency.

I highly doubt there are aftermarket supports for a R transfer into a CRX body so a lot of the work would be custom, so I'll throw you a rough figure of 10,000+, go with the rest of the suggestions, B series; they are relatively cheap now a days (b16a)

I'm assuming you have a D16A8 CRX in the ED9 or EF7 series?

Isn't that fuel efficient? The car only weighs like 890kg and given that it's 96kw of DOHC non-VTEC it should still be able to move quickly if necessary.

You could just mod that a little bit without messing up efficiency too much (although when I got my CAI's I just starting VTEC'ing all the time lol :))

Not to mention, if you wanted power you could just spend that potential $10k for the R18 on boosting the D16A8 with suzuki vitara pistons/built bottom and stuff...then it would effing travel through time.

as far as budget goes, a b20 with its gbox is probably a better option and more easier to maintain.
R18's would require so much custom work as you'll find you'd probably be the only one in the market putting one in a ED/EF body.

With all the custom work that would be required it would cost as much as a K-series conversion. And be a million times slower
