hey, ive recently changed the rotors and pads on my front brakes on my eg5, i also did a brake fluid flush with all new fluid.
the pedal felt great for teh first 10mins, but it started to sink to the floor when pressed but if u pumped it, it would tighten up again, but then sink again
im guessing its the brake master cylinder thats gone.
what am i looking at? brake master cylinder, brake booster?

any advice would be appreciated

sounds like you've bleed incorrectly and there are air pockets,

Or leaking in the MBC, check for leaks

If it was workin fine before.. "chances" are that you didnt bleed properly and have air in system.

i had the same problem, my brake master cyl was farked. but as others said, if u just did work on the system, id put money on it that its not been bled properly

well, when i bought it, the pedals felt ok the first day, then the next day i noticed something funny and hence the problem being discussed. i then got the rotors and pads and new fluid service performed. and the pedal felt great for about 15 mins, then it sunk, so now im guessing its the brake master cylinder.

if thats the case, do i just need a new master cylinder or do i need the brake booster as well

its usually the master cylinder. The seals wear and need replacement usually.
Seems like a common problem on older hondas

^^ so i can just replace the seals, or would replacing the master cylinder be the better option?
cheers for the advice

ok, i took it to a brake place and they replaced the master cylinder, new fluid.
i could have saved some money by sourcing the actual part from mekong, but i needed to get it done asap, plus i live on the northern beaches.
also, i didnt want to take a gamble with working out whether it was a dc2r or eg vti bmc, they did the guess work for me.
turns out its a eg bmc.
overall, im happy that the problem is sorted, thanks for all the advice

how much did they charge you for everything if you dont mind telling.

I paid $300, $200 was for the part and $100 was the install and ancilliaries (fluids etc).
Basically I could have gotten away with it for half that but I needed the car asap. Mekong spares have the bmc for about $120, but I live on the northern beaches so I didn't want to spend 2 odd hours driving to get it, they were willing to courier it for $20 which wad fine but it would take a day.
Honda oem is about $280 for the part, so I got it for in between. Also if ur handy and have the tools and time then u can perform this relatively easily. I didn't have either nor did I want to get dirty.
So there u go, u can get away with a new bmc fitted for $150 or u can let a brake shop do it for about $300, either way don't leave it too long
