Hi all,

Just looking for more opinions on what ECU i should be looking at for a D16y1 build.

Some background info on my car :

- Cheap ebay headers (n*power, i recommend them!)
- Custom 2.5" staino intake
- 2.25" catback with 2" high flow metal cat
- Always runs 95 or 98 octane

And soon to come:

- Stage 1 or 2 bisimoto cam

That's about it really, not looking to make something crazy but I'd imagine some sort of ECU upgrade would be needed to make proper gains.

Also, how much money would i be up for?

piggyback ecu - im going simple using a VAFC2 pick them up used for about 200 just reset and get retuned and then you can adjust the vtec point too unless your going to do a REALLY serious build piggy back is the way to go.

Since your oem ecu is a obd1 P28, get that chipped :D

Hondata, chrome, etc etc. Not the shitty cheap ones on ebay, but the ones you can custom tune and burn onto your ecu. Search on d-series.org or pgmfi.org i think it is for more info.

I'm running S100B in my turbo B16A you don't need the S300 unless you want USB map swap out

The S200 hasn’t been manufactured in years so unless you find a second hand one, your choice's are...

S100 or S100B
S300

If your running a 2.25" exhaust system will,U should make the cat 2.25" aswell, keep it all the same size.

I've decided to upgrade my 2" system to a 2.25" aswell.

I just bought a 2.25" x-force hi flow cat for $60,just need the resonator and piping. My x-force twin loop muffler is already 2.25" I found out, bonus!

The collector on the x-force headers is 60mm,which is 2.32"

The reason for the upgrade is the cam plus I believe it will beneifit from it,i.e it wont be too big.

No prob's

Shame though as it was a good middle ground ECU

Now you only have Top of the range or bottom!

On the plus side the S100 tunes exactly the same as the more costly S300 at a very cheap price in my opinion

They use binary code with the S100 so you can't hot swap the maps via USB

I had the same setup on my Stock D16Y1
x-force 4-2-1 2.25" header
x-force 2.25" high flow cat
x-force 2.25" piping
x-force 2.25" Twin loop muffler

Make a very nice sound but didn't notice any benefits power wise and I paid retain $1200

I did notice what I believe to be better fuel economy

First mod I every did to my Civic :)

Oh wow,nice one.I paid $150 for the x-force headers.190 for the magnaflow high flow metal cat 2",@" resonator 150,2.25" x-force twin loop 190,2" piping + install 180 = $860.

Were U not running a resonator? I'm thinking to not run one on the next set up,because I'm putting the cam in.

Just need:

2.25" hi flow cat
Resonator?
2.25" piping and install is sorted!

I think I'll get the TB bored out from 56mm to 60mm and port match the IM,will be $400 with postage.

What do ya reckon? I think this will support the 2.25" exhaust system.Like,it's probably needed.

Maybe change the twin loop?

How much of a difference would a straight though exhaust make?

I dont wanna lose low end power,so if the twin loop helps with that, maybe it's best to keep it.

Yeah running 2.25" Resonator too

I was running the 2.25" system on my boosted D using the twin loop so you'll be fine

Plus the twin makes a nice pitch

straight though with your motor will = loud as fok with real power gain.

Bored out the TB won't do shit man, that's just my opinion

Thanks Luke,I still like the sound of the twin loop and am probably very picky with that,so I wont bother changing it,sweet!

It would just be too loud without a resonator yeah?

I think I'll do the TB and IM boring anyways..

Good price man, I paid full retail coze I hadn't court the mod bug and didn't know what/where to buy lol

yeah got'a have the resonator and they don't restrict anything

They just interrupt the air flow a bit to disperse the sound waves hence less noise

You might find you throttle response lacking if you make the TB and IM to big or even any bigger

Cheers Luke,I'm onto a good thing with a fella Geoff @ Sebring mufflers, top bloke!

He owned the fastest v8 in AUS and reaced it at Willowbank,so I'm in good hands!

True with the throttle response but do U think the cam might make that up at all?

Good good

Always good to have someone with real world experience ;)

Thing is Honda's TB and IM are already big enough a flow well enough..

I can tell your going to do it no matter what I say so once done lets get some dyno figures up so we can answer the old question once and for all :p

HAha,yeah cool.I mean I'll have a stock IM and TB to swap back if it's no good.

I've got a hondata IM gasket,so no drama's about breaking my back, scraping the old gasket off! hehehe
