Well my trans oil hasnt been replaced for 5 years (25000kms) so now its time for a change. Car is running a D16Z2 Auto.

I saw this oil and it says it can be used where Dexron fluids are reccomended which is in my case because in the users manual it says to use Dexron II auto fluid. So is this oil suitable for my trans?

link to the oil im thinking of buying http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/online-store/products/Castrol-Auto-Transmission-Fluid-TQ-D111-4-Litre.aspx?pid=1443#details

it is widely recognised that Honda gearboxes/transmissions are quite sensitive to the fluids used... unless you have aftermarket modifications to the box, i and many will encourage you to use OEM...

do a search

From memory, I changed my EK1 Auto OEM Gear Oil around $70.

No because Honda ATF is not a Dexron type fluid. You might find a 3rd party company manufacturing the same thing as Honda ATF (Honda doesn't make ATF themselves, an external company makes it for them). No idea which company Honda uses, but if you do find out, it should work.

$80 over a few years is nothing. You change oil (cheapest $30 every 6 months) twice a year, so it engine oil is actually more expensive per year than ATF which lasts longer (I advise to change every 2 years / 40,000km)

i used castrol cyntrax i think its called, was friggin expensive though, i think 90 bucks for 2 litres or something similar, seems to be working good, noticed a difference right away with the smoothness.
hope it helps

ill head down to trivett honda on tuesday and grab a 4L bottle, $70 aint that bad especially if im not going to be changing it for another 2-3 years.

heres a scan right outta my owner's manual suggesting to use Dexron fluids

That could be from before the time Honda specified their own ATF. Just like how the older Honda manuals recommended using 10w-30 engine oil in the manual gearbox, because there was no alternative. Now that Honda has their own specified MTF and ATF, use those instead.
