Hey Guys,

I'm getting desperate at the lack of Vti-R's up here in Qld!

Just this afternoon I went and had a look at a Vti-R... This one:

http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/private/details.aspx?R=7206868&__Qpb=true&Cr=11&__Ns=pCar_RankSort_Int32|1||pCar_PriceSort_Decimal |1||pCar_Make_String|0||pCar_Model_String|0&keywords=&__N=1216%201246%201247%201252%201282%204294965322% 204294965105%20900%201466&silo=1011&__No=0&seot=1&ts
c=allcarhome&__Nne=15&trecs=43&__sid=120805E286ED

Now. While the engine bay seemed in good order, I was absolutley shocked at the condition of the car, especially after reading 'paint is in showroom conditions' in the descripition. What are these people on? I could write a list 2 pages long of all the things that would need to be fixed just regarding the paint job alone.

I understand that these cars are 15-16 years old and I really dont expect perfection. But I just felt so let down seeing this :(

Now I've continued my search, and I've found this 94 model:

http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/private/details.aspx?R=7410782&ref=RecentItem&__Ns=pCar_Odometer_Single|0||pCar_RankSort_Int32|1 ||pCar_PriceSort_Decimal|0&__N=1216%201246%201247%201252%201282%204294965322% 20900%204294965105%201622&__Nne=15

Has anyone here been to look at this one? Would I be correct in saying that I shouldn't be looking at upwards of $9k flat for a stock(ish) `94 vti-r??

I'll try and get in contact with this guy and see what condition this one is in :)

Thanks in advance for all your help, I much appreciate it!

If anyone has/or knows of anyone selling a clean Vti-R in Queensland, please let me know :D

sup dude,

The red dc2 vtir, is the owner Ben by any chance? the car is mainly at his mates house and they can't speak english for shit. they fustrated me so much when they said 'the car is pefect'. that car is stuffed!

it seems it hasn't been serviced in a long time, and it's filthy.

But have a look at the 1994 model though, gun metal gray is so rare on vtir's and they mostly came on turbo.

good luck and keep searching hard

That's the one! It really is a shame, its deteriorated so badly since those pictures in the carsales ad were taken.... I took it for a drive around the block but I didnt take it over 3rd so I couldnt tell how the thing ran, but it did still feel nice. Then again it was bound to as it was my first time driving a B series, coming from my D series eg :p

As for the 94 one, I tried give the guy (his names Ben too) a call but the number's been disconnected so I dont have anyother way to get in contact with him.

Are there any other sources I could find one that you know of? Everything nice seems to be in VIC/NSW! I check up here and carsales everyday, but no go still...

Thanks again guys

Mmm, keep trying to get in contact with him and he should reply.

Search everywhere dude,
Like, trading post, boostcrusing, clubitr, all sorts of forums. Boostcrusing is your best bet sometimes because most cars there come with all the goodies + the reliable price.

Just remember before you buy a car, take it to a workshop and get the RWC done by yourself. My mate bought a car and he saved $1,500, so instead of paying full price he paid $1,500 less to the dodgey guy.

There's not much in car buying, but you should know this game well:D
Good luck again:wave:

Look out for this. You can win or you can loose.

The last time I did this on a car (a non-Honda) I lost. I got F*cked over once because I wanted to save a few $$$. Never again. In that situation, I went with a so-called mate to check out a car, and everything looked ok. In an attempt to save a few dollars, we bargained to buy the car off the seller and go settle the roadworthy stuff ourselves. After all, the car's registered, is a daily driver, looks ok, so what could be wrong right? As I found out.... plenty....

The very next day, I took the car to a mech's shop for its roadworthy certificate. Strike one: brake discs too thin. Fail. Strike two: The whole chassis front crossmember was MISSING and bits of the chassis showed poor welding. It was invisible from the top, and can only be seen if you hoist the car up and peep under the body work. Boy, I was so F*cked because the work to get the car roadworthy would end up costing more than the car itself. It had apparently been smashed and put back together is a rather dodgy fashion. No roadworthy certificate, car becomes illegal to drive in a month.

I called the seller, who was a woman, and told her, "hey look your car's not roadworthy. I can't get it registered. I can't buy it. I want my money back. Please."

She said, "why not? I bought it 5 years ago it was ok I never crashed it. I can't give you the money back. I've put it into a deposit for another car. My husband took the forms today morning and got this car taken off my name. It's yours now. Sorry. I can't help you."

F*CK. I was stuck with a very expensive LEMON. And I didn't have the money to deal with a LEMON.

In the end, the car was sold to a junkyard for close to peanuts. I lost 80% of the money I paid for it. Not. Happy. Jan.

In the end, I think either the woman who sold the car to me was conned herself and got it with a dodgy roadworthy cert when she bought it, or she knew about the problems with the car and just wanted to pass it on to an idiot. i.e. me.

In my time of looking for used cars, I find that there are a lot more dodgy cars out there than many people realise. Buyer beware.

Now back on topic, I suggest a 96 or later DC2. The earlier ones had only one or no airbag and also an OBD1 ECU. A little know secret is that the 96' cars are a good buy because they are pre-facelift but have much of the post-facelift tech like 2 airbags, OBD2 ECU and new style post-facelift wing mirrors (they started the facelift with the wing mirrors). If the seller doesn't know these little details, use the fact that it is pre-facelift to really knock the price down.

But the minus point is that a 96' DC2 VTi-R is very rare because it's the only year where the car has a pre-facelift body with (mostly) post-facelift internals.

I've taken that on board, and I think I'm just gonna bite the bullet and just save a lil more and take a look at this one:

Looks sweet. I'd hit it!

Low Kms, but it's due for a timing and accessory belt change. Rule of thumb with timing belts: replace once every 100,000kms to avoid catastrophic failure. If sellers says 'yes it's just been done', ask for receipts. Don't ever believe words. I used to. Then I realised that there are more liars out there in this world than I ever expected.

Check the motorised radio antenna too. The gears strip out after about 7-8 years. Then on the way up and down, the antenna makes rat-tat-tat-tat noises. A new antenna mast from Honda costs more than $100 from the dealer. Plus labour, around $200 to install.

Keep these tips in mind when bargaining for a good price

If there are any visible worn parts (like the radio antenna I mentioned), and the owner says, "what do you expect, it's more than ten years old."

My retort is always, "You obviously didn't care enough for it to maintain/replace parts on it."

IMHO $10-11K is what I would pay for the car if no work needs to be done.

Vvvtec
19-02-2010, 08:03 PM
Your a beast! thanks for the tips man, I honestly wouldnt have even thought of the antenna... and it's the little things that all add up.

I also see this one doesnt come with a Road Worthy Certificate... Should I be asking him to get it before I agree on a sale? And I've never had to bargain before, is it best to just lay out your bottom line first up? Or is there a better way to do it? Like, for example ask if he's willing to go lower than what he's asking...?

Sorry for the ton of questions, but take it as a compliment, you know your stuff and I appreciate the help! When I bought my civic is was so straight forward, I had everything, reciepts going back to December 94 right from the Dealer and it was a grandma too haha :)

It sucks! I felt cheated, and I dont want it to seem like im overreacting, but when I saw the ad saying 'imaaculate condition' and to turn up and see BOTH bumpers and BOTH tail lights broken and seals missing around the windscreen, I felt abit let down haha..and thats before I even get to the paint job.. yeahh i just hope its not another case of your red vti-r that you went through, i think that a
law should be made that owners have to always make sure their car is in a roadworthy
condition, that way its safer for other motorists that the car is around, and safer for future
buyers

dinorider

It's the absolute hardest thing, but patience is the key.

It can get stressful, but don't settle for second best just because you get impatient. yep like many have found, people love to falsely advertise 'clean' cars that are anything but clean when you see it in person.

And always, always, always get an independent mechanical inspection and ask the mechanic for his opinion on the car's rwc status (if being sold without rwc) before laying down your money, no matter how tidy the car looks. You can never be too careful.

newpaddy3
20-02-2010, 08:06 PM
yeahh thats a good point, patience is essential, like i am so desperate to buy an
integra, but i don't want to get a crap one with a load of problems with it, and it's
so frustrating having to look through carsales and boostcruising like twice a day
trying to find new ones that are in good condition, like i'll settle for a gsi so long as it's in good condition

Vvvtec
20-02-2010, 08:23 PM
Yeah i'm not going to settle for anything unless it reaches my expectations for the amount of money i'm willing to put on it. Patience. It's hard to keep, but it pays off in the end.

aww damn... does rota have a bad build quality or something?

Trawl through the yankee car forums for pictures of Rota's cracking/breaking.

Rota's claim to fame is in making replicas (a.k.a. copies) of famous, top grade wheels. And that's all they are good for, cheap copies. Every 'nice' or 'famous' Rota design you see is copied from a design of a top end wheel maker. Search the internet for pictured examples.

The Rota slipstreams are famously known as copies of the Spoon SW388.

You can get Rota copies of the TE37 too, they're called the Rota Grid!

But........ friends don't let friends buy Rota's.

Another suggestion for the OP, if you find a nice grandma's car, check for completeness of service records! She could just take it for regular oil changes in some cheap workshop, so the car ends up getting filled with unsuitable motor oil, and the mech could have overlooked major work like timing belt changes etc because the lil' old lady didn't tell him to do it.

14k...wouldnt it be kinda the same if u bought say a good condition 94-96 integra with about 200,xxxkms on it for 5-6k and just rebuild the motor with new internals for ~4k and save alot of money and have new engine, just chucking random ideas out there lol

Nah its true, thats a good idea, and I thought about it. But I'd still need a daily in the mean time and I jsut simply couldnt afford to be off the road during a re-build. Plus, call me pedantic if you will, but I'm kind of partial to the post-facelifted look :p That's not a biggie tho, if I was to find a 94-97 model in good nick I'll look at it.. I recon u might get the white 45k vti-r price down to 12k. Thats a very reasonable price. Go through it with a fine tooth comb and use any wear/scratches etc... as leverage.

Like Michael Katon said in The Castle: "$14k? Tell him he's dreamin'."

Like Michael Katon said in The Castle: "$14k? Tell him he's dreamin'."

So I went and sussed it out today.

Good points:

-Car is straight, never been in an accident
-He chucked on some new tyres on the rear for roadworthy, along with alignment etc..(just spent $700 on service and tyres...)
-Engine bay is immaculate, looks new. No oil leaks anywhere
-Ditto with the interior, it was spotless, apart from needing a thorough clean.
-Type R wing optioned from the dealer back when he bought it in september 2000, which was nice
-ONLY 45,000 KILOMETRES!!!

Bad points:

-Car has obviously been left in the sun a fair bit, paint has lost it shine is some places, however it is NOT faded.
-a horizontal row of dents, each about 1cm in diameter about 30-40 cm's long above the right rear wheel, starting under the rear window. He blamed his little kids for that, however it didnt really bother me as with a goooood clean, it would be hardly noticeable
-Headlights are starting to fade slightly, but again nothing a good thorough clean wont fix.

Everything else on the car is perfect. Apart from those superficial things, I could hardly fault the car. As I believe Dino pointed out to make sure I check for, the antenna made the 'rat-a-tat-a-tat' noise. But apart from that, its a beauty.

Took it for a drive and it was perfect, very very smooth.

Regarding the price, I was hoping to get down around the 12k mark, even abit under. And I thought I could have done it, pointing out the dents and other faults, but as he had jsut got the roadworthy a couple days ago along with a service, adding up to over $700, he was firm at 13k, no less.

Overall, the guy was a champ, a real nice guy and it was a real pleasure to go look at his car. If he would have taken 12k I would have done it. I'll maybe go back in a month or two if I havnt found anything before then.

Going to go look at this one next:

Yea, ive seen that other 'teg on carsales, looks clean. Its been there for a while, cause, hes asking too much.

Same with this guy. With the dents like you said + the radio antenna + fading paint, he is dreaming. He'll probably take a lower price when he still hasn't sold after a month or more. After reading your post my conclusion is that $13K is too much. If it was mint, maybe. Print out the redbook value page and show it to the seller.

Yeah, I've come to the same conclusion. Anything over 12 grand is going heading into ITR territory... And this one was the thing i've seen to mint. And yesssss I was thinking about printing out the Redbook value, I will do that for sure with this goldish one..

That silver one looks really good too. Worth checking out for sure.

For that white one, yeah sure the owner's spent lots of money on it before attempting to sell, but it's still wishful thinking to ask for so much, considering that the paint is dulling and dented in places too. You might think, "oh the paint can be buffed back to a shine," but not always... Honda's water based clearcoat from the 1990s is usually quite thin and buffing too hard will go right through the clear. And a repaint is not cheap at all.

When I bought my DC2, the previous owner changed all four tyres to decent new ones, bled the clutch, changed the brake pads, bled the brakes, all up he had receipts for more than $1200 from just a month before I was buying the car. And he still sold it to me at the rough market value at that time, with no special mention of all that extra work and new tyres.

Somehow some people think that all these routine maintenance issues should be additional add-ons to the base selling price, but I beg to differ. if you loved your car, these should all be done as part of routine and not just for the sale of the car.

Of course, unless the car is already stuffed full of Mugen, Spoon and Toda parts, then that's a different story and a high price is justified.

BTW I always wondered why the facelift DC2/4 had that ugly (IMHO) blue interior. It's hard to match the blue interior with the exterior colour. the black interior from the pre-facelift is more neutral.

Vvvtec
04-03-2010, 10:25 PM
I agree with this /\ /\ /\

Sounds like you had a really good previous owner owning your car.

I actually felt a little sad for the guy. Such a nice fella, but he wasn't mechanically minded at all, which I knew from the beginning was going to be a disadvantage. I got the feeling that he obviously still remember's forking out the $40k+ he did when he bought it brand new and maybe feels he's entitled to make as much back as he wants, without knowing much about the market for these cars. Which I guess is fair enough, but it wont happen..

Although, I still couldn't believe how little k's it has on it. All the little plastic labels are still on the brake and power steering fluid containers haha made me smile.

And regarding the interior, do you mean the colour of the seats? Because the dash and carpet were black, really black in this one. Looked amazing compared to the grey of my eg.

And regarding the interior, do you mean the colour of the seats? Because the dash and carpet were black, really black in this one. Looked amazing compared to the grey of my eg.

Yes I meant the seats. The blue seats with the funky patterned print always looked off to me. Just wasn't my taste.

I agree that talking with non-mechanically minded people can be hard. You try hard to see their point, but in the end still have to come to a reasonable compromise without sounding like a prick to them.

For example, the seller tells you, "I just replaced all four tyres for $800 last month, so I should sell you the car for $800 more than the current market value of the car."

But you'll be thinking, "but you should have good roadworthy tyres on the car in the first place, do you think that all those other cars for sale on the market have junky, worn tyres?"

Took me 2 months to find my DC2 when I was looking, balancing a decent asking price with a good condition car. When I bought it, it was well cared for mechanically but the rear bumper had paint chipping where a tow bar equipped car backed into it while parking. The chipped section is still there up to this day. I hope to find a matching coloured rear bumper and just replace the whole thing, will be cheaper than repainting it.

I've also thought about buying an Integra from NSW and driving it up to QLD... Don't do it man ahahaha, the roads are so stuffed up these days and price's of 98 octance fuel is bullcrap.

Goodluck and hopefully we'll chat on the 4th July meet

Yeah I was seriously considering it, but decided against it. I heard some good advice, earlier in this thread. No matter how desperate I am to get a certain one I find, another one will ALWAYS pop up. So I figure by the time I have the exact amount of money, I'll have found the right one.

And yeah man, I'll make sure to come say hi at the next meet

my advice just wait for that one that you really want.
no point rushing in and buying a dc2 when you wont be happy with it in the end.
youll end up spending more money on it then you first figured (i did that).
i waited about 6+ months before i bought my dc2 but by the 6th month i just wanted one and then yeah spent a whole lot more than what i first expected to spend on it.
and selling it now i know i have no chance of getting back even half of what i spent on it.
so choose carefully.

Goodluck on the sale though!

29-03-2010, 09:56 PM
yeah i believe being fussy in the end youll be happier.
because you got what you wanted.
you could always go one with high kms for less then just engine swap it.
doesnt take that long and you just need someone handy on the tools.
but im sure there would be a heap of people on the forum that would lend a hand.

yeah the only down fall on my sale is that the engine is at 200,000kms.
but ill keep on selling im not going to go below $7k for mods and body works sake.
that might be my biggest downfall.

Fitzy

yeah, body work is body work.
why get a face lifted one when you could easily do a jdm conv.
just pretty much lay out all your options.
then deciede on the best path for you.
you could always face lift it yourself in due time.
but once again, lol, options options options.

Vvvtec
29-03-2010, 10:08 PM
Yeah that's a good point too.. im just thinking, why not jsut save up now, and not worry about spending the same money and (more) time later on doing all that myself.

Facelift > JDM anyways :p

yes, not difficult at all. Will cost between 450 and 650 dollars from WA. Basically contact transport company and you could get it shipped door to door which will cost more. I'd suggest door to depot to save a little money.

You will need to get it registered in QLD though, because techincally if the car will be permanently moved to QLD it's not meant to be registered to another state, and you're meant to change the rego as soon as you can.

This will involve getting a RWC and whatnot to do so.

You could also try google to find car transport companies, however I would never feel comfortable paying so much money to someone I have never met to buy a car I have never seen or inspected.

In my opinion it may be difficult to wait, but if you can, try and find a mint one in QLD.

Mikecivic78

IMO buying a car interstate is costly and more hassle than it's worth.

Brisbane is a fairly big city. One will turn up sooner or later.

BTW, whats ur budget? You didn't get the silver one, so I'm guessing ur budget is less than $11K.

I love my EM1, but maybe if I find a mint, unmodded DC2 I might buy it. I want more torque, even though the em1 has got a more modern look. Originally I thought I might upgrade to an s15/DC5r, but I'm not going to be able to afford it. I've toyed with the idea of turbo EM1, but it would be too expensive.

I want a coupe, but lately I've been looking at some mint MY'00 WRXs. They are very cheap these days, peeps are asking $12-$14K for low km (<140,000km), mint and unmolested examples. Talk about bang 4 ur buck (0-100 in 6.6 secs bone stock!). Depends on ur budget, but you can find some higher mileage ones for <$10K. I won't look as sexy as a Honda coupe, but it'll give you A LOT of fun and they are reliable.

Are U after just an Integra, or would u be happy with a VTi-R Civic? My EM1 is mint, well looked after and it's had an easy life. When I upgrade I will wanna get at least $10K for it if u might be interested then.

Thanks for the offer man! To be honest though, I am after an Integra. Like you mentioned yourself, I'd like to have that little bit extra torque, plus I just have a thing for the (facelifted) shape. Interior is damn sexy too IMHO.

As for my budget, I very nearly got that silver one. The only thing holding me up is my current car. I need to sell it before I can buy another, as a chunk of my cash is gonna come from that. Tbh, $11k is probably the most I'd pay for a Vti-R, afterall these cars are 10-12 years old already.. Saying that, if I found THE one, like that silver one, I'm not going to have any trouble whatsoever handing over the cash :P

But like you say, and really struck me is that Brisbane is a large city. It's only a matter of time (inbetween) a fine example turning up. I've already seen 3 sell that I'd have been satisfied with. So I guess it's only a matter of time before the next turns up and everything is in place, with my eh selling and getting my tax money back too.

I hope u find ur 'teg.

Still, today i went 4 a surf down the GC... whenever I'm on the freeway and I plant the EM1 into 3rd (within the speed limit of course) and let it hit vtec everyone that hears the b16a roar and sees the acceleration reacts. Even SS commie drivers usually smile or give a thumbs up. Its a great little screamer. As far as torque goes, as long as u slip the clutch, you can get it going from a standstill reasonably quick, although the DC2 doesnt require as much driver involvement to get it moving due to more low-down torque.

Even though I'll get a Subie fairly soon, I will never forget that b16a sound. It's priceless and truly turns heads :P

Alex after the conversion i got my car registered with the motor without requiring a mod plate. (yes it really did pass all the scutiny it was under) I believe p platers are only restricted from driving cars with conversions that require a mod plate - which mine did not require.

I can show you registration paperwork. Engine is registered to the vehicle, no mod plate was required. Passed rwc and qld transport.

P platers cant drive turbos, superchargers, or anything with a certain power to weight ratio... Im guessing that what stops him driving it. I think technically us QLD P platers cant drive a dc2r?

alex are you seriously asking a guy that thinks a dc2r is not a p plater friendly car for advice? no offence samoth but yeah.

anyways like i said, a conversion is not the issue its a conversion that requires a mod plate that is a problem. And like ive explained, i can show you paperwork, my car did not require a mod plate for registration. At the end of the day, the paperwork covers your ass. If the boys up stairs approved, why would you listen to someone on a forum.

I cant stress anymore, i have the documentation still in my car. At the end of the day, a police officer can frame you into a fine for anything. Don't go houning around and you'll be fine.

Yea man, nothin' is right. All of the ones on atm have been there for ages, no takers. They look like tired examples. I reckon you should consider a pre-facelift, you'll be waiting around ages for a 98-99. They don't seem that plentiful right now.

Yea man, nothin' is right. All of the ones on atm have been there for ages, no takers. They look like tired examples. I reckon you should consider a pre-facelift, you'll be waiting around ages for a 98-99. They don't seem that plentiful right now.

I'm still sitting on my EM1, actually I'm planning to put some fresh rubber (T1Rs) on. I'll trade up but if I find a nice car, but I'm in no hurry.

So how much is your budget after your tax return?

Yeah I've thought about it, but I decided against settling for something other then meets my standards, which are:

-Facelifted
-120,000k's max.

I know it probably makes me sound super fussy and pedantic but I know it's out there it's just a matter of time before I find it.

And put it this way, I have enough CASH to buy it when I find it, none of this debt/loan business haha.

How many k's has your em1 done man?

Be prepared to wait a while. 120,000km is extremely low for a 11-12 y.o car. It would have to average 10,000km per year. Personally, I do about 15-20K per year.

Also, check all the car sites, and not just carsales. It's the most popular site, but sometimes they can pop up on other sales sites. They rarely do, but sometimes you can find one.

My EM1s has 180,xxx Km. Engine still pulls like new, they're mostly highway Ks and done by a middle-aged woman. Ks aren't as important as long as a car has been well maintained (regularly) and not driven into the ground.

They are pretty rare, but I've seen 4 since January. There was a red one about 3 months ago with 88,000k's that was up for $10,500 I think, which is roughly the amount I'd pay for one.

Yea I remember that one. The colour is more of a burgundy, even though they call it "burning red pearl". That one was on sale since about Aug 2009, about the same time I got mine. At that time they were asking $15,000. I would of definitely bought it if it were 10,500 at that time.

That's the exact one my friend! That was probably the best deal I've ever seem on the net. I never actually went to inspect it though so I have no idea what shape it was in, I remember it had a tow-bar haha..

Back then (when I first started looking) my budget was about 9k tops, but in a way the lack of good cars has helped as it's let me save a whole heap more.

any good black vtir's in melb?

Im guessing you havnt done any of your own research?

Depends what your looking for really, there's something like this, completely stock:

http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/private/details.aspx?R=9180245&__Qpb=true&Cr=14&__Ns=pCar_RankSort_Int32%7c1%7c%7cpCar_PriceSort_D ecimal%7c1%7c%7cpCar_Make_String%7c0%7c%7cpCar_Mod el_String%7c0&keywords=&__No=0&__N=1216%201246%201247%201252%201282%204294965322% 204294965105%20410%20903%204294922435&SearchAction=N&silo=1011&PriceTo=410&seot=1&tsrc=allcarhome&__Nne=15&trecs=16&__sid=12A9FC0925DB

Or this, something alittle modded (looks to have been done rather tastefully atleast):

Likewise, looking forwards to seeing it. How did you first find out about it?

Kind of a cool story...

I originally went to inspect it back in March when it was advertised on Carsales, but I was just short of the cash at the time. It then sold, but luckily I was able to 'trace' it, as it was actually bought by a member on here (crx51, a real champ btw).

Anyway, as I was keen on it I talked to him about it and was keen to make an offer later on when I had the money for...

Long story short, before I got to it, it sold again! This time to a mate of his, who also fell in love with the car haha. But after owning it for a short time, due to personal reasons he then had to let it go!! So as Scott (crx51) knew I was keen on it, he put me in touch with his mate, and I finally got my hands on it!

It's honestly the cleanest DC2 I've seen in person, both inside and out, with a full history. 116,xxx K's on the clock.

Literally had 3 chances to buy this one, so third time round I couldn't let it slip again and snapped it up!

I'll get some pics up soon, but they won't do it justice that's for sure. Can't wait for the next cruise!!

To be honest I didn't really notice much loss, if any, in the bottom end, the bigger throttle body makes quite a large difference and makes the throttle very sensitive/responsive.. Took me a while to get used to driving it after the mods lols

The biggest gains I would say is high end, the vtec is single stage and the crossover sounds very very nice. When vtec engages it pulls quite hard :) (much harder than stock)

I've installed the coils, I don't really like the lip I bought so I'm probably going to try and find an ITR one as well

I guess I mis-worded that one, when vtec "kicks in" (hate saying that) its a smooth engagement, can just feel the revs/speed build much faster, there isn't a "pull" perse just a very nice increase in the powercurve but of course would be much nicer with an ecu/tune

I know what you mean to, they are pretty high in stock form haha 4x4 spec. I think some coils and some nice wheels will be first on the list.

How does your car look now man? What have you done to yours?

I would like to thank you for actually choosing Work wheels and not the rip-off Rota style version.

For that, you have earned some rep.

Do it yourself, don't waste money on workshop service. Spend the $$ on mods instead.

Just look on the interwebz for info.

And go to Bunnings for tools.

Problem solved.

THANK YOU BRISVEGAS!!

I'm here all week.

lol I'm so ****ing bored, you should totally DIY though.

Just change your oil, I think that's all you will need.

Unless you have noticed any problems?

Seriously, anyone can do basic servicing of fluids. All you need is a good spanner/socket set, 4 jackstands and a trolley jack.

Dude it costs like $1000 for servicing, you should spend that sort of money on tools, then I can borrow some lol.

But let me know what tools you'll buy because I have some you can borrow and it ends up cheaper if we share. Sharing is caring.

$1000 for a service? wth that must be like a crazy fkn service

I think he just meant the oil change + filter change, if you want change the leads+plugs, fuel filter and airfilter while you're at it

One for Pablo...

I should have a Skunk2 IM and DC2R Injen CAI on the way very soon! Question is, is it possible to run the Injen with the stock VTi-R throttle body? Ofcourse my intention is to eventually get the bigger TB in there, but right now funds limit me. I'm sorry I apologize for the noob question!

Also what was it like crossing over into VTEC so 'early' (lol) at 4400? Does it build power pretty nicely in the top end?

pablos8
18-11-2010, 04:33 PM
Yo!

You should still be able to use the DC2R CAI on the VTi-R TB but you might need to clamp it down a little harder than usual, you run into trouble when you try and run a VTi-R intake on a DC2R TB or bigger (eg skunk2). I wouldn't say vtec kicks in at 4400, maybe more towards 5k, its pretty nice having a single crossover as well :D

Upgrading TB asap is a good idea when you do get the funds, you'll feel a much better throttle response (aka your throttle will be EXTREMELY sensitive and may take some getting used to lol), I'd recommend the s2 one if you already have the IM, but the DC2R will also suffice for much cheaper. Did you order the goodies from Yonas? :)

Vvvtec
18-11-2010, 04:47 PM
Thanks for that dude!

I'm definitely going to get the bigger throttle body :) I'm not in any real rush either, so I think just be smart and wait until I have everything then get it all put in at once, will save alot of stuffing around and will be more fun afterwards!

Part of me is saying 'get the ITR throttle body it's cheaper', but the other part of me wants to just spend the money once and do it right first go. I can get a s2 tb for just over $300 shipped from the US now that the Aus dollar is so strong! How strongly do you recommend the skunk2 product over OEM? And what would a ITR one set me back roughly?

I was planning on getting the goodies from Yonas, but I found one on here for abit cheaper, so I'll be getting that! :P

Sorry for the million questions man, its just handy talking to someone who's done the exact same thing!

pablos8
18-11-2010, 04:59 PM
Hahahaha nah all good man!

Yeah the dollar is strong now so the time to buy is now :D

I can't really comment on ITR TB but rougly they go for maybe around $150-$300 used? I'm just guessing that one lol
I'm not too sure on the difference between the VTi-R TB vs S2 because I did it all in one go so I felt the difference between all the parts vs stock in one go and man it was a difference haha

Also it might be better waiting because when changing IM its easier to swap out the TB as well while everythings out :):) Also did you remember to get an IM gasket for when you change your IM?

Vvvtec
18-11-2010, 05:10 PM
Yeah I will wait to get it all in at once :) I'll keep and eye out for the ITR TB maybe I can pick one up really cheap, cheap enough to sway me towards it hahaha.

No I havnt got the gasket yet I was actually thinking about that. Do you get one with the manifold when you buy it new? The one I'm getting is still new in the box it's just been opened that's all haha same for the cai.

pablos8
18-11-2010, 05:24 PM
Haha nice!

The s2 IM doesn't come with a gasket, you can buy a gasket for like $50 or something from Yonas which is the one I used which is better quality I think or you can opt for an OEM one from Honda for like $30-$40 I think

Vvvtec
18-11-2010, 09:32 PM

I know! So excited to get it all in! :D

Hopefully I'll get it all in just after the 10th of January.. Not long now!

I opted for the ITR throttle body. Although it isn't 68mm like the Skunk2 product, it's still larger than the VTi-R one. Half the price of the S2 one too.
