oil catch cans.. mounting position?

any no-no's to mounting catch cans? i.e. cannot be lower than x point

You would want to have the catch can as equal to the height of the engine close as possible.

fair enough, will find somewhere to mount it then
wanted it fairly hidden next to the radiator under the overflow bottle but guess i have to go higher

really depends what ports you're using but the general rule is as high or higher then the highest port that you're tapping into.

Otherwise you might end up with oil being pumped into it without anyway of getting back to the block. (depends on the points you're using though)

will be venting the valve cover and pcv to it, so yeah i think i've got to go high hehe
probably won't be draining back though

i don't recommend draining back anway, providing you're only getting oil vapours caught in the can and not large volumes being pumped in.

The only time i would drain back is if its a filtered catch can. Theres alot of junk that can get picked up buy the can, and its better to stay in the can then go back into the block.

yeah it's just a cusco catch can with a few extra ports
will probably make a drain plug though, we'll see how i go :)

any recommendations on mounting locations in an ek?
also hosing lengths, any drama's having it fairly long? i.e. 1-1.5m

hose length doesn't really matter, the more direct the better though.

i've seen them mounted on the firewall near the battery. Have a search for images on goolge or through some threads on HT. I'm sure theres plenty of stuff to give you some creative ideas.

yeah been looking for a few mounts, see how i go
just wanted slightly longer lengths so i can route them out of the way and stuff, it'd be handy
i'll see how i go :)
wanted to avoid the battery area since it's fairly crowded as it is

I placed mine where the battery and fuse box used to be. I relocated the fuse box under the dash and the battery to the rear

well i've been told to use 0 gauge, other people seem to be the opinion that straight 4ga cables seem to be the go as well
single 4ga to starter
single 4ga to fuse box
+ whatever other accessories i.e. amps, etc
