For $5k, I'd be looking for one in pristine condition. Not a blemish on the paintwork, perfectly serviced, not a single problem. It's a series 1 version too. Generally I'd say $5k is too much though.

3rd Gen Prelude is a car that people have a tendency to overvalue - a lot.

I got my 91 prelude 3rd gen for 3400 with only 45000ks on it.

IMHO, 5K if the paintwork/interior and of course all mechanicals are in good order. Also, remember, it's a 21yo car, so ask yourself, is the mileage legitimate?

As much as I love the BA4/5 ludes even $3000 is too much.

The most I ever paid for one in NZ was $1,100 nearly 7 or 8 years ago now.

Personally get an injected model, manual, two wheel steering, lower it on low king springs (not super lows) then get a set of light weight rims.
You will have a lot of fun with the car.

$1000 bucks sheesh. Hwen ever I hear NZ prices, it pisses me off how overpriced cars are in this country.

I think the last BA4 I had I forked out about $400 for it with 6 months registration, that was in good condition too with no rust.

The reason cars are so expensive in Australia is because the government continues to protect Ford and Holden by restricting personal imports... Fools! Sure they say that even new car dealers will be affected but they won't be.
All the same brands can survive in New Zealand with only one fifth the population and plentiful used imports.

It's not only the car imports but even parts, it's all cause of America buying the new holdena and chevy barging them.

With the failure of GM, and the unreliable nature of Fords (some exceptions, like the focus have proved to be good, but they are still pretty new) and Holdens, not to mention their high depreciation value, the government is really hurting their consumers. Sure I'll buy a Jap import if its cheap, and I can spend the money I've saved on other local products (like going out etc..., rather than an engine rebuild at an astoundingly low mileage.

By 200,00Km, a Falcon/Commie is in for lots of wallet bending repairs, but if it's a Honda, most likely i'll still be next to A1- and I've seen b series 300,000+ still going hard.

sorry off topic but couldn't agree more on that comment. my parents 96 falcon has had the head redone twice already with about 220K on the clock, my brothers EG Gl civic has over 300,000 and still untouched. He also neglects it so that's gotta say something about the quality of stuff Honda are building.

Well my current 1991 prelude was running hard at 320 000km clocked, until it got hit front end and i got a new engine put in with about 50 000km at the time.

bought my 3rd gen lude for 1200.... engine done 130000, lowered, 17" rims, short shift gearbox, exhaust, etc...

i wouldnt pay over 3000 for one considering redbook says they vary from 1100 to 2400...

i'd look around more if i were you.
