Don't need engineer certicate
Going from 1.6 to 1.8 is fine

but if you're planning to upgrade:$
suspension
bigger brakes
steering wheel
bucket seats
aftermarket rims
aftermarket exhaust.

best to get an Engineer Cert. at the same time...
so then U can drive ur car with peace of mind!

pretty sure because of the increase in displacement from the 1.6 to the 1.8 you will need an engineer's certificate.......

well you dont, its just under 15% so you dont need and engineers cert. :D

hehe yeah, anything over 1.84L * to be exact * needs an engineers cert.

tho you still need a blue slip n ye

can you throw an older motor into an newer model chassis?

say the b18 was a 97 model would you be able to throw it in a 00' chassis.. legally.

If they have the same or lower emissions then yes u can. If not no.

For example a 96 b16a into a 97 ek chassis is fine due to the same emissions.

Also i believe that you do not need an engineer certificate for changing your rims within 2 inches of stock.

lets just say i put in 16" rims into my 2000 ek hypotheticaly how would i go about getting an eng cert for that and what are the costs behind it etc

MWAKU

well, cops don't really bother you on 16" wheels on an EK.......... but if u were really pedantic, u just gotta call up RTA, ask for your nearest engineer, then book and time, then go and get it checked out and get the looked over and get your shit engineered n get the mod plate.

the answer is directly below is post.

its fine

as the emissions are the same, its about the emissions, not the year make of the engine

Back to OPs question, i didn't say u need one, but it's best to get one if ur thinking of doing alot of Mods to ur car. Engineer Cert costs between $500-700... therefore it's best to do all the Mods first like I said then Engineer Cert ur car. It will also depend on the popo that pulls u over, they will look for something they can defect you on (from pods to rims ansd even tyres...)
Remember money cannot buy that peace of mind while U drive!

correct me if im wrong im pretty sure it depends which state your in as the increase in displacement varies...

Yes it does depend on the state. How about u call the transport authority it your state to confirm it for you.

engineers certificate for b18c? are you turbo charging it?
what a waste of money.

you want piece of mind? mod your car properly.

1.6L to 1.8L just needs a blue slip.
You can also put example say a 96 spec itr motor in a 99-00 model car.

didn't I say that the OP doesn't need an eng cert. for 1.6L to 1.8L, in NSW that is I dunno in other state... but if he want's to do more upgrade (turbo or non turbo) then having an eng cert. would be the safest way.

...when U said "mod ur car properly to my quote, if U want peice of mind"
that means changing suspension, bigger brakes the list would go on and on, just to make your car not only fast but handle the power.

you gotta remember to do this U would have to change factory parts and settings... and what would most popos say "if it's not original it's DEFECT:p

nahh you dont need to have engineering certificate.. your only upgrading displacement by .2

AFAIK.

from 1.6L to 1.8L

QLD - Need Cert (10%)
NSW - Dont need cert (15%)
VIC - Need Cert (10%)
