As the title says, i was looking at the JB HIFI online cataloque and come accross cheap speakers, amps and subs.
I know they are shitty products
The reason im thinking of buying these products is because im gonna use the car only till the end of the year(either i sell the car or pass on to my sis, she couldnt care less about sound system) and just want something better than the standard speakers.

Here are the products
http://www.jbhifi.com.au/car-sound-gps-navigation/speakers/
and i was thingking of getting

I went for the cheapest products basicly.
My question
1. Is it worth it to spend that much for a car ill only use till the end of the year?
2. Is the quality of the things im goin to buy is so crap that its not worth to change to?
3. Any other suggestion on what to get?

Thank you:D

overpriced.

i can give u a set of speakersl ike that for $40
the 6x9's i bought them once.. they are rubbish, spend an extra $50 u get a proper 6x9.

that sub i must say is cheap but i got my 2x kicker competition subs 1200w each for $110. 2nd hand is better..warranty on subs doesnt really work lol.

If u want a cheap amp i woudlnt go for audio line .. i tried them out not the best..
However theres this brand SSL im sure uve seen it on ebay or someinthg its a cheap shit brand, i bought one amp.. they are actualy not to bad, there ratings easily match what it says, it never seems to stuff up.. Like for a cheap shit amp it is quite good

So i recommend SSL in Amps :)

sony is shit imho. u dont need 6x9s since u have subs. i would spend the money on getting decent spilts up front a 4channel amp and sub, use 2channels to power the spilts and bridge 2 to run the sub.

The reason im thinking of buying these products is because im gonna use the car only till the end of the year(either i sell the car or pass on to my sis, she couldnt care less about sound system) and just want something better than the standard speakers. If you're getting rid of the car, just put up with what's in it now and don't spend anyting extra. The stuff is cheap, but there's a reason that it's cheap... Most times stuff like that won't sound any better then a standard sound system in the car.

If you were keeping the car, I'd say yes, upgrade!!! I jsut did, and it makes a big difference, even if it's just to your own opinion of your car. But when you are not planning on keeping it, you'll ruin the resale value of it if you put in sub-standard *%$@ like this. It makes any potentil buyer think "why did they do this with all this cheap junk?". Not a good thing when you want to get a good price for the car. And if it's going to your sis, or whoever, do you want them to be stuck with something that's really as sub-par as this?

My advice here would be stick with the standard sound system, and let whoever uys the car from you decide for themself n what they want ot put in it. That way, you don't spend anything extra, and whoever ends up buying the car won't feel like they are replacing something that someone else tried.

Hmm...i see what you mean. I really dont want to spend anything on this car at first. but ended up buying lips and rims for it LOL.
I got a decent headunit in the car and i just cant take it leaving the speakers standard. I guess ill put more money to it and get some decent audio.
Would $500 get me a decent system?

As mentioned Sony are the biggest piece of crap ever when it comes to car audio. You're simply wasting money cause the quality compared to stock would be minimal if any at all.

Freeway Car Audio sometimes have a half yearly/yearly sale which you can pick up cheap stuff. Don't know whether you have Freeway in Adelaide though?? Or you can check out some quality 2nd hand goods from CarAudioAustralia forums.

$500 should get you a decent headunit & splits 2nd hand. Not really sure if you can pick up a sub & amp as well, it depends....

Would $500 get me a decent system?Would the $500 be for speakers or for head unit and speakers?

If it's for speakers alone, then you'll get a lot of good stuff out there for that price. Still it depends on how many you need. I've just replaced the front speakers in my car, and they were over $500 by themselves, so prices do vary. Most of the time for $2-300 a pair, you can get some pretty good stuff. I'd stic away from Sony, Piobeer, Kenwood and brands like that. While they are good quality gear, they don't have the same sound quality that other brands do. As i said before, just go to an installers shop and listen to a few sets of speakers. You'll soon find something that you like, and can fit your budget.

$500 is for front +rear speaker with sub and an amp. I got a old 6850 pioneer head unit.
We have JB HIFI, Strathfield, supercheap and autobarn and some smaller audio specialist.
How about the Mb Quartz entry level?is it any good?

and i saw this For sale: ALPINE 12" TYPE-R SUBWOOFER IN SEALED BOX - 1241D
Notes: Connection plate cracked (does not affect operation).

i picked up an Alpine Type R sub, Alpine amp and Alpine Type R splits for 400 (used from this forum) + 100 for wiring at jbhifi and a couple hours installing myself i now have a decent system :D

i had a headunit to begin with but still good stuff is out there just have to look!

I'd agree with hitoriko. Buy the stuff new, and that way you've at least got the warrenty for it all. And, it's not that much more expensive when you want to buy all that much.

As I keep saying, just go to your local places, and see what they can offer for your budget. That's really the only way that you'll ever see what you can and can't do. :)

Oh, and as far as MB Quartz go, they are a pretty good brand for speakers. i'd probably personally buy them over Apline, but then it also depends on the price difference, where and how they'll be installed, what amp is powering them, etc... But that's the same as pretty much everything like that. You need to see what can go where, and see how it all fits together.

ill run all the speakers throught the head unit and an amp for the sub. ill probably get the type r sub and front and rear quart or alpine or sumthin like jbl and stuff. Ill certainly check JB. Btw i went to strathfield and asked for a decent system.

THey gave me JBL gt5 splits+pioneer 6" way +sony 1300 w sub + xmzr602 amp $600 sumtin all together.

when i went to jb hi fi 2 days ago..they quoted me

JL audio splits, and JL audio 6" speakers, some kicker 4ch amp for $620..then you get yourself a used sub..for about $80-120..that'll be a good system..

please dont buy that junk in your original post. you get what you pay for with cheap stuff. pop into a specialist with a better range (and higher quality) gear. pretty sure adelaide have a tonkins car audio. check em out if youre close by.

dont buy something just because its cheap. audition your speakers & make sure you like the sound of em (even if that means spending a few hundred more) or else you'll just end up replacing & spending more in the long run. this way you can simply transfer your stuff to your new car(knowing you love it & without needing replacents), then put in the stock stuff back in when you give your sister the car.

Buying both fronts and rears with a sub is economically inefficient in itself... sorry if it had already been mentioned.

Beleive it or not, jaycars products are amazing for the price. Sound quality is great and can turn them up quite loud without distortion. My supra is decked out with their gear.

system is the best thing man coz its osmetihng ull lose 100%..
not much on value .. but its a great thing to have :)

and its rare that u see ppl having the EXACT SAME SYSTEM .. so it kinda makes ur car unique.

But like i said in SUBS i REally would go for 2nd hand .. its much cheaper.. and warranty on subs ? seriously.. everytime u take it back they just say u BLEW IT. and dont refund u lol.

Unless u go get it professional tuned at lyk DORAN PRO AUDIO who provide full warranty which covers even blown stuff so long as u didnt change your tuning or wiring and never touched the system.
WARRANTY with subs is bullshit, with amps iTS QUITE important, with speakers... um.. splits yeh.. ive personally never had a problem with standard coaxials. . so i cant make much of a judgement.

Yea decided to just spend abit more and to get 2nd hand sub and maybe amp. Is Cadence any good?
Was thinking of getting either kicker/Mb quart/JL (splits) all along the price range of 100-200.

wah too expensive bos. Wats the difference between alll those way is 4 way always better than 3 way? And should i stay away from pioneer?

2MPRS
05-03-2010, 12:56 AM
basically 4 way means each speaker has 4 speakers on it. brand doesnt really matter to be honest if u like the sound of it buy it

slimx
05-03-2010, 10:10 AM
3 ways the way 2go

arverson
05-03-2010, 04:42 PM
quality 2 way SPLITS over any cheapo 3/4/5/6/10-way coaxils. these extra 'ways' are apparently 'super tweeters' or 'super mid rangers' but all they really are are cheap low quality drivers that aernt needed. theyre basically marketing gimmicks.

you said youre gonna spend a lil more.. dont know how much more but i rkn spend that current 500 on splits alone, or splits+installation, or splits plus some sound deadening. forget about rears

I actually think Sony is pretty good TBH. In my old car from when I first got my p's I had a Sony headunit and 6"9's, they alone produced a sick sound, the speakers were only $99. I'm putting the headunit back into my teg until I can afford a DVD player and am looking at buying this package.
https://shop.1wow.com.au/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=119&idproduct=5039
^^Its on a clearance sale at Wow, Jb hifi are selling the same set for about $130. I think a lot of the time you're paying for the brand. I have never noticed any major differences between different brands, it all depends on the setup.

500 have you to including speaker cables in that.. i spent 500 alone on speaker cables.. but thats just me using stinger cables and power cables and acr.. but you can get sony power cable for 100 all up??

2MPRS
12-03-2010, 03:20 PM
since it is a budget system u can even get a 8gauge wiring kit for like 50bucks he isnt gonna be running alot of power anyway

if you go for cheap, i think you can try to get an active subwoofer which combines both amp and sub. it also sit neatly under your seat which saves your cargo spaces!

when i firstly bought my civic i was a tight ass got like a $600 system overall (including deck lolz)- i totally regret it, wish i spent like $1-2k and just hanged onto the system since then. it is worth getting a great system cause cheap ones distort like a mofo

if you are compelled to stil save ur cash, realise good front speakers cost $200 where shit ones sell for $60-100 so its not worth buying cheap ones when good ones are very close in price, so to save money buy second hand pioneers n shit people let them go for next to nothing
