I Have installed a K+N Cold air Intake and Skunk2 cat back exhaust, i am finding with the aircondtioner on the car is idling very low around 650rpm. the car shakes as a result and it sounds like it is pinging. With the Airconditioner off it idles perfectly.
It also pings between 2000rpm and 3000rpm on light throttle and i have only ever used 98 octane!
Wondering if anyone has any advice solutions..

Did you make sure to plug in the intake air temperature sensor on the Injen CAI?

Disconnect it for 5 minutes, reconnect it,start the car up,DONT TOUCH ANYTHING and let it idle for 5 minutes, turn it off, start it up again, done!
Need to do this after any engine mod,it lets the ECU re-learn the new air fuel ratio for the new set up.

Don't need to let it idle for 5 minutes. The Euro does not lose the idle setting when you remove the battery.

Bit confused Aaron, how do U reset the ECU in the Euro?

Resetting the ECU only clears the short and long term fuel trim. In order to have it relearn the idle, you need to use the HDS tester unit to put the ECU into idle learn mode. I have disconnected my battery many times and each time the idle is still the same as before I disconnected it. It doesn't lose the idle setting.

I have the same problem after installing my INJEN CAI. I did let the battery out for 5 mins to reset the ECU but I think aaron is right about this HDS Tester unit?
Can you elaborate on this HDS tester unit ?
I've also been getting that annoying pinging at 2k-3k rpm usually on about 2nd-3rd gear or so.. feels like a sick car :(
thanks

Is yours a CL9 or CU2? Didn't think that the CL9 would ping on 98RON fuel. If it is a CU2, it's because you have a mass airflow sensor, which gets confused by the higher airflow that it is detecting.
HDS tester is a diagnostic tester used by Honda dealers. It lets them check everything and do almost everything with the car's electronics. Don't think you'd be able to buy one aftermarket.

the intake has been on for a year, and the exhaust has been on the car since boxing day so 2 months. its ever since the exhaust was fitted.

The Euro ECU is very adaptable and adjusts to mods fairly quickly.
I would give the battery disconnect a try to erase the fuel trim records. Also try changing the fuel (go to another servo). Check if the sensors under the car are loose/damaged too.

man my cu2 loses power whenever i turn the aircon on. i have to rev hard just to get it moving on flat ground. the moment u turn off the aircon it flies off like u just hit the n0s button or something -_-. wud a cai help that problem? i mean its increasing airflow right, so there shud be plenty to go around for aircon and engine lol

I can't tell if you're joking or not...
Your car loses power with the A/C on because the engine has to power it through the accessories belt, which puts more load on the engine. It has nothing to do with air being stolen...

yes i do have a cl9...
how much do u reckon the honda dealers will charge for the hds test and rev adjustment? all the airflow sensors are put on correctly by a mechanic and i even went back to them to get it checked up and they tried putting the sensor back on etc..
do you think there are any long term effects to the engine in this case?
to OP: if you do ever go to honda to get this fixed, please let me know how much they charge because i know they charge hefty by the hour!
thanks

this is for CL9 as well. no, the intake will not help it.. i know what you mean when ur going uphill and u got the aircon on.. it struggles then bam at 3000rpm, u get this strange boost of power. just pretend its a turbo :D

You sure the sound is not from the intake at low RPM? I reckon the dealer would charge by the hour as required. Minimum charge block is probably by the hour too.

Are you in the correct gear? If going up a hill, you want to be in the correct gear to get the right ratio to go up a hill of a certain incline.

aarong, do you think the dealer still willig to do the test on moded car? I'm going to install a cai onmy cu2, now this thread gets me worried...

They should still do it and charge you for it. If you put a CAI, and you get any engine problems, the dealer can blame it on the mod and not cover warranty for that problem. That is what you get for modding. So decide properly.

So the same would apply to civic's?
What is 'HDS tester unit' Aaron?
Thanks mate.

It will be the same for the modern Honda ECUs that are in the current models since 2003 I believe, including the S2000 and DC5R.
Here is the user manual for the HDS. You can see the whole range of features of what it can do. http://www.motodok.com/Documentation/Files/Honda-Acura/Honda-Acura-hds.pdf

Gotcha!
The HDS,is it's main purpose finding the problem? i.e it's what those Diognostics guys use to find the problem on a car when all other avenues are exhausted.
As a last resort, hence why those diagnostics guys in thier vans are expensive.

Usually only Honda dealers use HDS because they cost a few thousand dollars. It can do the basic code readout as well as put the car's ECU and instrument circuits into diagnostic testing mode to identify faults. It can also clear selective parts of the ECU's memory. I believe they also use the HDS to update your ECU when new versions of the ECU software is available.
Those diagnostic guys would probably use an OBDII scanner which are much cheaper ($100 off ebay). They are able to charge you heaps because they offer the convenience of diagnostics and repairs at your home vs bringing your car to the mechanic.
