Hi, i was just woundering about one thing. If you for example remove the steel wool insulation from the muffler core, would it affect the sound of the muffler??? I want it to be loud, but my theory is that if i remove the insulation it would make the sound high pitched??? which isn't what i want.

How did you come to your theory ? the smaller diameter , the more hi-pitched the noise emitted it seems ( IE a barrell/cannon style muffler) as compared to offset and oval style mufflers.

If u want loud just go with no resonator or even no muffler.
Dont complain when u get defected tho.

Dont take off the cat, just hurting mother nature =]

Take off your reso (excpet a bit of a buzz) or get bigger exhuast piping with a higher flowing muffler (cannon)

But as ben said expect to be defected

ok cool, i guess you guys convinced me out of what i was going to do. I've got a N1 style muffler and was woundering that the insulation would dampen the sound, so if taken out would un-dampen the sound making the exhuast note more true. thanks anyways.

on the topic of mufflers, i got a muffler with no brackets or anythign and was wondering where can i get it installed? i've been quoted a few places already but just wondering if i can find another cheaper place.

how loud to do you think a 1990 civic is gunna be?? it doesnt carry a very beastie engine. On my 88 civic I just cut the muffler off and replaced it with a 2" tip, I wouldnt go any bigger than a 2" tip. I have never been dfected :D so i dont really see you having any trouble.

I've got a 4.5" tip on mine with a 6" barrel :D. I was woundering Kawasaki,
on downshifts does your muffler produce a rather sexy sounding crackle and pop??? cause mine causes huge pops as the gases exit the pipe, and trust me everyone who has heard it says it's gorgeous  . Sounds like a WRC rally car on shifts, yeeeeeeeah. POP!

Yeah mine pops, a lil, but pops are not good! pops are saying to you "hey you this exhaust is too big" and then your exhaust creates a reverse vacuum sucking air into your exhaust (from what ive read) meaning decrease in performance

Another thing..... why!!! 4.5" is crazy!!!

Is that the reasoning for the pops! I got mine done a liverpool exhaust and the N1 a got was the smallest size one they had in stock. I've notice that when i get someone to rev my car on a cold day i can see the exhaust sucking the cold air back in as you said "reverse vacuum". But i've read on several sources that the back pressure created from the effect also helps NA cars a little, or maybe i'm wrong.

Cheers.

i've got 195,000 k's on her so far. Yeah thats right she's been broken well :D
Tho she's in good condition in and out not bad for a 15 yr old car. shes the love of my life. She almost got ridden off tho, by some guy cutting through an intersection and almost T-Boning me.

What about your car???
