Last two paragraphs from Motor Magazine Jan.05.
The WRX is still a benchmark car,& it`s more often imagined
fighting against V8 s than other fours. However;against the
relative scalpel that is the TypeS,it has nowhere to run &
nowhere to hide.
OK,the TypeS is less extravangantly feral than the TypeR
was.But,on balance,the the TypeS is a better car.A better
car, too, than the WRX & it easly has the Sport Megane 225`s
messure. It might not be as fast as either of them, but it`ll run
them close in the coners,it`s easier on its tyres (& insurance),
& it`s the car that`ll make you smile the most.

It`s a very positive write up of the Integra TypeS against
the other two cars.

Sounds extremely biased to me.

agreed. like saying a nissan pulsar is better than a gtr because it uses less fuel, cheaper tyres, less maintenance and lower insurance.

Sounds like a pretty fair reveiw to me.....
"It might not be as fast as either of them"
"it`s the car that`ll make you smile the most"

Maybe the reviewers idea of a good car isnt it's outright speed like a lot of people on here seem to think......

Well depends on how you look at it.

A Hyundai Excel could be better than a WRX if you look at it purely from a fuel economy point of view! But there is more to a car.....and it seems like this reviewer is either biased, or his/her primary focus in a car is something completely different to most other people.

Actually until any of us read the whole review we cannot say whether it is biased or not.

Most reviews so far seem to speak favourably of the Type S. It seems like a good `drivers' car.

What do you guys mean by biased?

I am completely biased as I drive one. Yet i am too willing to be on the record that the TypeS is a much better car to own and drive than a Rex. Much more civilized and easier to drive in daily traffic.

At the same time do keep in mind that Wheels actually excluded the typeS for the Car of the year award....

It also says the type s is faster than the previous type r's, how true is this??
Yeah given it has 7 more kilowatts but it weighs 70 more kilos tho doesnt it???
Anyone have a clue, as integras arent really my field.

To be honest, i don't think the type S will be any faster in a straight line than the type R, although i have a slight suspicion that the type S have a shorter gear ratio than the R- that might help a tiny bit.

I'm hitting the rev limiter at just over 90km/h in 2nd gear. How does that compare to the R?

FunkyR

exactly the same on the DC5 Type R...

VTEC to cut out is roughly:
1st gear 50-60
2nd gear 70-90
3rd gear 100-115 (I think)
4th (I was too busy looking at the track to realise! :) around 120-140 I think)

Mmmmm wouldnt be too surpised if the S is a little bit quicker in a straight line....

Don't know why they even compared a 2 wagons against a coupe, totally two different car segments aimed at totally different markets..silly in my opinion

Apparently the revised engine in the S puts out more power/torque throughout the rev range, which must be enough to more than compensate for the extra weight. Somebody line them up and find out!

Type S is not eligible for WHEELS COTY as under their rules it's considered a facelift - there is no significant changes to justify including it

a long, long time ago, MOTOR mag had a comparo between S15, DC2R and WRX (bug eyed version). i think the comparo this time is similar, if you were in the market for these sort of cars, it's a fair call to say that you would consider the other two?

in friday's drive a few weeks ago they compared the Alfa 147, Mini, Megane and WRX (wagon) http://www.drive.com.au/editorial/article.aspx?id=8764&vf=1

Best motoring have done a track track impression on the dc5 type r lined up against the following cars 2006 civic type R, mazda rx8, 2004 wrx, 99 is200 and the toyota mrS. the civic and type r were the losers in take off and ofcourse the wrx munched itz way through, but by the fourth lap the type r had overtaken 1st place leaving the wrx is second with the civic up itz backside. not a lue at all as itz in the issue with the z tune Gtr skyline.
