save more money and get something that comes with a dohc vtec stock
no need for swaps, suspension, seating, etc

Normally k's show a matter of to much use right?
So how much integras get up too? and which integra?
How much is a honda prelude worth?
Also thanks again for the replies everyone, such quick and helpful replies.

hardly
I've seen alot of cars with low k's high in year that have sat vacant for yrs, which is just as bad
what you want is a car with service records, receipts for repairs made and upto date log book, etc

agreed ^^^
my mate bought a car from 1994 with 80 000kms on it and it was worse off than my 1994 integra with 180 000kms on it
hondas will go forever as long as they are looked after ... my civic has done 300 000kms and it runs better now than ever and i have owned it since 150 000kms
just make sure it has a good service record and runs well and u will be fine
VTIR integra with around 180 - 250 k kms on it should be a good target ... i have seen them around for 4500 - 10 000 $$ depending - i wouldnt bother with GSI tho ...
you could also look for a cheaper EG / EK VTI and work on the SOHC VTEC ... but DOHC VTEC is better as if you are only starting out with cars

Service record and log book. If i was to buy a car without it and want to have a service record and log book what do i do?
The black and white honda prelude in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yAD2QCNs9f8&feature=channel looks alright.
How much is a honda prelude worth?

well its just not about the engine, other stuff gets old in the car aswell, the suspension, bushings, body, things like that

well first off if a car doesn't come with a log book, or any service records, I would immediately drop hundreds-thousands off the price as there are plenty with such records and buying one without comes with expensive risks. There's no excuse not to keep records of maintanence, if they don't have it, it's there problem, not yours.
and yes body parts do get old as mentioned, but if it's looked after like mine and many other cars, owners should replace them as they get old, those items also come up on a safety certificate when it's up forsale

i wouldnt go just on looks either ... take some time to learn about the difference in size/weight/handeling/engine/fuel economy
you dont by a toilet on the pretence that it looks good .. it has to function as well

So what should i keep my eyes out for in terms of what car i can get?

what do you want out of the car?
cruiser?
accord, prelude etc
racer?
integra, civic etc
do you want a coupe (EM1-prelude), a sedan (accord-4door civic), a hatch (civic) or a fastback (integra)?
do you want a DOHC engine or a SOHC engine, do you want VTEC or no VTEC?
do you need fuel economy? does the car need to meet the requirements of daily driving?
what are your goals?

I suggest EG Civic Si with the DOHC non-VTEC engine. Looks nice and will make good torque curve :)

yeah depends what your goals are really.
if you're wanting to have a little project, i'd suggest getting a nice EG, that way you'd be able to do some work on it with the money left over and fuel will be cheap. parts are common for the EG also and will keep you busy for a bit. other cars wont leave you much change from 6k

yeah EG hatch or sedan is a good start, theres ALOT of support from them and alot of CRX Del Sol and Dc2 parts are plug and play
you can play with the engine as is or start doing it up and go for a B series swap
alot of flexibility with the EG =)
other than that the Integra VTIR is a good start ... u may be able to get a prefacelift for that kind of money

lol tegs are heavy ... go from driving almost ANY other car on the road to a Dc2 and it will feel alot lighter and nimble ... civics are just freaks lol

Cruiser and a racer (show but race)
Would prefer a coupe, no VTEC coz restrictions on p's

theres restrictions now that dont let you have vtec? lol sucked in haha
well u cant have ur cake and eat it too ... best thing i can suggest is a VTIR prelude but i would only bother with a BB6 and they are out of ur price range
so im thinking probably an EK VTI or pre-facelift Dc2 VTIR ... or u can get the model accord with the H22 in it ... couldnt tell u what they are called off the top of my head

that was an import i think
The CD7 - 5th gen Accord SiR...or you can do a transplant
but for a p-plater, still think EG is the way to go on this budget. or ED/EF!
