ok sweet
which one would run better the short ram intake?
ekcoupe

well i would recommend a cold air intake(cai)
the sri are good, i have one of these (http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=115603) on. you can feel a bit of a difference performance wise and has a great sound.
Short ram intake gets heat soak if in a hot/humid area,
cold air intake dosent get heat soak in any condition

Don't waste your cash!
Aftermarket IM or CAIM are pointless on the D's not to mention most are illegal
Spend your hard earned cash on looks and handling

nothing against u ... just that u cant really do anything to ur engine, better off saving up for an EFI conversion, or buying a different car if you want to tune
i have alot of experience with EG civics and Dc2 integras and i will provide information where possible
your lucky we are being this nice ... all you had to do is hit the search button ... and google ... all the questions u have asked so far have been covered many times

i would spend money first on getting the car running properly, service it and fix up any oil leaks

I think somebody wrote up a DIY about using motorbike air filters on a carby motor or something lol
Otherwise, Saint is right, do a little research - save for an EFI engine or spend the money on handling. Chasing extra power is probably the LAST thing you should do when modifying your car for performance or fun.
Stiffen up your chassis with some strut braces, get some new/good tyres or maybe a new set of rims to accommodate for wider tyres, maybe some new springs/shocks and you'll be laughing at how you wanted more HP when you rip around a corner :)

ok thnx heaps guys. sorry saint lol just one question a mate of mine has a 1.6L litre cam/head. he said he would give it to me for 100 bucks its fine nothing wrong with it or anything. if i get it all polished up and cleaned up real nice would it make my car run heaps better considering i have a 1.5.
cheers

depends what the engine is,
whats the engine code?
owens14
10-03-2010, 09:39 PM
im not sure aye all i know it is out of a 93 model i think fuel injected 1.6L lol thats all i know he hasnt told me much
ekcoupe
10-03-2010, 09:47 PM
get more info on the engine an we can help you more:thumbsup:
but a carby to fuel injected would have abit of a power increase, it wont run better unless if its been well looked after.

ok sweet. me and my dad work on it just about everyday just doing lil things at a time. i got to go see a carby specialist to tune it all up and gett it running better. i have been to a few mechanics and they dont wann touch it cause they said its real fiddely and shit. sorry for asking all these questions lol
my exghaust has been getting black and that, does that mean theirs tomuch fuel going through if you know wat i mean lol

i think changing to EFI and than doing a head swap will be a good way to go =)
can you provide the engine code of your engine and the engine code from your freinds engine?
once u get the EFI + Head sorted than you can look at intake/headers/exhaust and cam and things will start really looking up for you ... as it is now though i wouldnt spend too much time and money on it ... if you really want to do something get urself some front and rear strut braces for now and start looking at springs, lower tie braces, struts, slotted brake rotors and better pads etc
depending on your engine tho it might be easier to just get a whole engine swap to a VTEC EFI D-series - u can get them at a good price, they are easy to work on and make good sound/power ... u wont get anything like a b16 or b18 but the price makes it worth it and the work is very easy/enjoyable =)
have a look at the build thread in my sig for ideas =)

If your car blows black smokes, your piston rings are almost gone.. this leads to less power.. Happend to my ED.. I think if it blows white/grey smokes, its burning oil, and if u blow blue tinge smoke ish thing, its burning too much fuel (some one correct me.. I might be wrong)
I got a double carby my self.. You can get it tuned real good and increase ur kws up to 15kw atw.. right now mine is 86kw atw from being 66kw atw lol.. Double carby (d15b4)
If your a fan of carby, you can always tune it up and make it go faster. But if u wanna go short cut then EFi is good choice.. lol tryna help u out with the black exhaust thing

For $300-500 you can get a D16A8 DOHC non-VTEC engine. 1.6L, 96kw and a good torque curve. Responds better to mods than a SOHC-VTEC engine because it has 2 cams.
It's EFI, and if you're going to pay to go EFI you may as well get a whole engine, not mess around putting half this onto half that. D16A8 is a good, solid engine. I recommend it a lot.

it isnt 96kw atw right? I believe its an estimate of how quick the engine is.. But if you got a sedan, it pulls off less power than a hatch with same engine.

96kw at the fly

70kw atw if it's in good knick, a bit over that if it's got I/H/E.
They're tough motors, good after market support IMO, cheap, economical, great torque curve compared to SOHC VTEC.
For the love of God, don't go SOHC VTEC. I have a DOHC VTEC and a SOHC VTEC. It's not the same lol. DOHC non-VTEC is better than SOHC VTEC any day...

Budgets are something that should be spent wisely, so if you're going to spend money on engine-swap labour I always recommend ensuring that the engine is actually worth swapping in.
If it's some old Honda that weighs like 800-900kg sure the D16Y1 or D16A8 will pull nice, but if you want speed go B.
However, get your handling done first. Safest and best idea ever. No point having all that HP if you can't do shit with it EG. cornering.
Today somebody almost wiped me out entirely when he went through an S-bend in his Calais and tried to burnout on the last apex (I was entering from the other direction)
...careered past me and hit 2 parked cars, wrote his shit off and one of the cars ended up going over the curb it was parked against...
So do handling first :)

thnx guys. i recently just found out i have cracker my head its leaking a lil bit so yeah lol. i have been looking at this d15 turbo engine its only 100 bucks on ebay so yeah if i can get it cheap mite just put that on and take the turbo off cause i am only on my red ps or ill just leave it on lol
ekcoupe
13-03-2010, 10:03 AM
it will cost alot to remove the turbo better off saving for a decent engine maybe even a b series swap,
or u could go with a cheaper idea with a d16 try an get one with sohc vtec

The engine maybe cheap, $100 or so (like you said) but you will be required to take high maintenance of it. Its not just a matter of the turbo and engine that you need.. You will need a shitload more crap to make it work properly which will make u end up spending more at the end of the day, and who knows that amount of money you can change it to B series engine.. B series engines are one of the nicest engine you can get around to, cheap, efficient, quick and reliable. Im just gonna go with everyone into this;
Go for a b series :)

can't because b18 is 1.8l an cant have a displacement in qld.
im pretty sure i can get away with putting in a b16a2 because its 1.6l:thumbsup:
i might actually ask qld transport if its allowed on a p plater license

i dont think so. QLD doesnt go by the ADR rules. they use their own which sucks. hence most people saying that their car is p plate legal even with a b18 in a civic is actually incorrect. i rang qld transport and they gave me a number to ring which was a mod plate place. they said if the engine was an option, no need for a mod plate otherwise there must be a mod plate in qld. somehow many people have gotten it registered without a mod plate though. not sure how.
