hi ive got some stock gathers speakers n they are awesome, only at loud bass they start sounding a little crackly. im planning to get a sub and maybe an amp as well.
do you guys think that it is good to do this? also, im planning to do this wiring all on my own. is it ok to do it yourself? i just hope wiring under carpets n all is an easy job.
any advice/guidance/approval/disaproval would be great.
thanks in advance.
p.s, the car is a sedan.

if u want a nice clean cheap system i recmomend.
Getting a nice head unit
Some nice aftermarket speakers
then buying an AMP & Subwoofer.
It'll level out quite nicely :)
Try not to get a really good subwoofer otherwise it'll overlap ur speakers.. then u need another amp for your speakers to.

Best thing to do is actually listen to a nicely setup system and apply the ideas to your system mate. I can go on and on about how I think you should do this and that but hearing a nice system and taking out the things you want to do to your car would be better IMO.
Which state you in?

im in melbourne mate,
nah im know what i wanna buy.
just a cheapo slimline sub by audioline and a nice amp to acompany it. i have a basic sony xplod headunit.
just sometimes my 6x9 speakers x4 at the rear of the car starts sounding crackly when i crank it up loud, i just want a sub n amp to fix that problem n might as well enjoy the benefits in sound.
im just wondering sorry for making this unclear to you guys but i was wondering if it was easy enough to install myself.
im sorta convinced that i can since im pretty good with installing home hifi systems like connecting it together n all, just want the setup to be neat.
thanks for the advice but, wont go to waste but yeah that is my real question

Do you mean to say that you are using 4 6x9 speakers at the rears connected directly to your head deck?
This is not ideal as the head deck would only have a maximum of 15-20WRMS output and this is not enough to power all 4 speakers. The reason why the speakers are crackling is because the output from the head deck would be most likely be distorted an working twice as hard as im guessing your simply put two speakers in parallel; applying 2 ohm load to your deck when its rated at 4 ohms!
I strongly recommend for you not to do this as you either damage your deck or you burn out your 6x9 as you are feeding distortion into your speakers.
I suggest you purchase an amplifier that is 2 ohm stable if you insist on this kind of set up. Generally you need to use an amplifier that has the same power output as the power rating of your speakers so that you are constantly feeding clean output to your speakers. Not only will your speakers last but will sounds much better also.

nah, its not that, these xplods are real old too, about 4 years old so yer.
dw ive put in a 2ch amp n 500w sub in the boot, goes fine, ive turned down the 6x9's through my headunit n let the sub do its work. works great that way imo. not the best, but the best by far for the bang for my buck. if ur setup ur proposing me to do is cheaper than $160, then tell me exactly where i can get the goodies. cheers for the advice but keep a heads up on the ohms next time
