Well once again the clutch pedal in my 2005 Euro has become notchy with obvious stiction.
This is a regular thing with 3 or 4 mastercylinders replaced under warranty. As it's now well out of warranty I thought I'd check it out myself.
I couldn't believe how much flex the pedal box displayed when the clutch pedal was pushed in and out. The groaning may well be coming from this flexing. The box is made on 3 or 4 pieces of thin metal spot welded together. It all looks extremely weak. Each piece moves around on the other pieces as the pedal travels. The pivot is well off centre on the pedal box and no doubt contributes to the flex. looks like a really weak piece of engineering to me.
So it was a spray of Lanotec and a prayer to god. Seems to have smoothed it out so far. Dunno if was the oil or the prayer.
Incidently, has anyone with a new model manual experienced this fault?
