How would I remove this number plate 'bracket'

Just so the whole back of the hatch was white

The white one looks as though it is just the black one that you have, but has been painted, not 'removed' as such.

Best bet would be stripping the interior panel of your hatch and checking for bolts/screws/clips to remove the panel. and get it painted white.

Remove the inner door trim and I'm sure there will be bolts on the other side (unless they are behind the number plate?

pretty sure there's a few screws behind the number plate then the rest is just clips
