im starting to think ill never reach the money saving goal to flop in a b18c and manual transmission, i spend too much cant save for shit haha. im reconsidering to get a b16a2, but everyone keeps telling me its not worth it. ive got a quote for 4.3k for full conversion, well in my budget's reach and looks like whatever conversion i do, i will be going back to these fellers.

im not looking to remake one of the most powerful cars, just something to restore a 4 door civic's fame again when SIR was known pretty well.

anyone got any tips/ideas on my problem? should i just go with the b16a2 and work my way to restoring the car back to its prior glory, and then go futher if i want to? or just slap in the dc2 vti-r motor in, its really doin my head in.

sorry if this post annoys anyone, or makes people laugh at me, its hard to decide on ye own haha

Try that little bit harder and save for th b18. You'll certainly wont regret it, the extra power and torque will certainly help your car as it is larger then and eg hatch. Then later down the track slap on a sc and you'd be laughing :D

Trust me best advice.. Unless your gonna slap a turbo on the B16 theres no point.. I think MRK24R has a B18C Jap Spec sitting around at his place so PM him and im sure you can work out a deal..

4.3k... including manual transmission mate ive got unfortunatley a automatic jdm car haha

im going to turbo either way, not giving a dam about the laws because the fuzz wont bother checking up on civics.

i really would like to improve this cars peformance the right way, but there are always other things money needs to/can be used before a engine conversion.

absolutley spot on saint, ur views are almost the same as mine every bloody time a question pops up haha.

although..
a few guys i know are real deap into tuning, and some recomend single cam is better depending on the engine's health
their first excuse they used on me was ''you only have to buy one cam''
HAHA

4500 is steep. Do more research.

$4500 is a lot, should be a grand or so less.

Honestly if you have around $4300 lying around you could source a B18C2 for $2500-3500 and get that put in.

It's about 125kw or so - 7kw more than the B16A2, and has more torque. Will pull very hard in a civic :)

go for the b18, same amount of work and the cost difference is only about $500-800
Torque & power is better in the B18

no thanks, h22a is out of my budget too. so is b18 but im pushed to get it by my hondahead friends and i can see why. b16a2 is what im gunna get, most likeley cause im still a student fresh out of high school haha.

im finding b16a2 is a good engine to work with, if i manage to screw up the block, b20 will be replacing the block haha :D

or turbo.

and the aftermarket variety is good, cheaper than the b18 goodies.

im not lookin to have a real fast honda, just wanting to replicate the eg9 as i got a eg8 atm d15b ulehh

Same things can be said with B18C.... how are B16 parts cheaper when its nearly all interchangeable?... excluding intake manifold types etc

cheapdouchebag

oh i never knew most of the parts were interchangable only thought small amount were haha.

yeah b18c is a much nicer foundation stone to work with, but it simply comes down to budget.

Would defs be more worthwile going the b18. As previously said, it doesnt cost that much more for that extra torque. Its worth it as i think youll find the B16 quite boring after while unless a lot of money was thrown into it.

b16/b20 combo is inbetween the budget of b16 or b18. i was just wondering a few things if i do plan to get a b20vtec setup or a b16 n later on chuck on a b20.

i know you cant get engineers certificate with b16/b20 setup because the motor doesnt exist (been told by akmotorworks). but is that really bad?
im looking to insure this car third party fire n theft wise n register it with vicroads.

whats so bad about having a engineers cert, no engineers cert.

actually a h22 is cheaper. Its can be had for under $2k for the half-cut.
Installation is abit more though.
Especially the engine mounts or even a H2B mount.

my advice, sell ur car and get one already done. if ur the type of person that loves drama and headaches in ur life, then by all means go the way ur going, but personally, i hate dealing with shit that i can live without, hence, i bought an eg already done. only cost me about $10k

A b20 setup is not cheap if it's done properly. It will cost you as much as a B18CR or B18C7 (because you don't do labour). It's certainly not cheaper than a B18C2 and is much more than a B16A.

h22a costs around 1.6k ~ approx and the hasport mounts 750$ so thats like 2.5~ and then to put it in costs like 800 ~ 900 and then engineeres cert is like 1k your looking at 4k+ for a h22a conversion you get plenty or tor q and power i mean the engine is rated at 142kw @ 7400 rpm thats in a 1.6 ton car in a eg which is 1.1 ton that 142kw and that much torque WOULD BE IIIINSANE i want one in my eg :D
