they arnt coupes ... they are 'fastbacks' ... or hatchbacks according to redbook/rac

this is a very non specifiv question ... the only thing i can think that you are talking about is the GSI vs VTIR models ... in which case it has been covered many times

One definition of Coupe - 4-seater car with a fixed roof and 2 doors

So technically they are coupes.

Maybe because it's too slow and embarrassing to put on the spec sheets.;)

a coupe doesnt have a hatchback... a Prelude is a coupe, an integra is a hatch... check your rego papers, if it says COU then its a coupe, if is says SED then it's thrown into the mix with sedans and hatchbacks

Just to clear it up a little better:

A coupé (from the French verb couper, to cut) or coupe is a car body style, the precise definition of which varies from manufacturer to manufacturer, and over time. Coupés are often sporty variants of sedan (or saloon—see American and British English spelling differences) body styles, reduced from 4 doors to 2, with a close-coupled interior offering either two seats or 2+2 seating (space for two passengers up front and for two occasional passengers in the rear).

Club coupé
a coupé with a larger rear seat, which would today be called a two-door sedan.

Business coupé
a coupé with no rear seat or a removable rear seat intended for traveling salespeople and other vendors who would be carrying their wares with them.

Opéra coupé
a coupé with rear seats that are mounted in the sides of the body and fold downward for use.

Sports coupé or berlinetta
a uniquely styled model with a sloping roof, sometimes sloping downward gradually in the rear in the style known as fastback.

Four-door coupé
a sedan with classic coupé-like proportions. The designation was first applied to a low-roof model of the Rover P5 from 1962 until 1973, but was revived as recently as 2004 by the Mercedes-Benz CLS.

Combi coupé
a body type from SAAB combining the coupé lines with large loading capacity.

I don't think the definition is set in stone.

For instance my rego papers from when I first bought my car stated it was a SED, then it's changed to HATCH, however my CTP and my insurance papers all say COUPE.

I'd think the closest description for a DC2 would be a Fastback, coupe mixed with a hatchback.

In theory a car with a boot that opens with the window is a hatch.
But does this include rx7's supra's and many other cars.
I have an integra and i prefer to use the term fastback or coupe because i hate the term hatch! lol

I like the term 'liftback'. Was oft used in the late 90s/early '00s to describe Integras and Celicas etc in car reviews and the like.
