Hey guys,

I own a 99 Honda Civic. At the moment, I just recently noticed it after a friend pointed it out, but it seems that while my car is on and idle (brake or handbrake on), the car is sitting on 500 revs. My friend pointed out that when the car is idle, it should be sitting at 1000.

Is that true, and if it is meant to be sitting on 1000, how do I fix this?

Cheers

i was always under the impression that revving 500-700rpm in idle was fine, my eg idles around 600rpm. correct me if i'm wrong.

check under your bonnet, there should be a sticker with the rpm range it should be at idle

Simply turn the idle/air adjust screw until it's where U want it.

My car is and auto,so I set it with it in drive as if I was at a set of lights. It says 900,I like it at 1,100rpm when in D.In N it's 1,500-1,600.

This is where mine is on the d16y4,on the throttle body:

reset the ECU (http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=67113) afterwards and ya done!

500 seems a little low.. 600-700 I thought is normal

Is the idle also fluctuations (going up and down between revs)? Or just sittin flat at 500.. if you'd like to advance the timing a little better.. then you can unbolt the distributor and move it a little clockwise or anti clockwise til you hear the engine idle you need and also have a friend looking at the tacho

cheers

Yeah it kinda fluctuates.

When i start up the car...initially it'll sit on 1000 revs...and then slowly slowly, it'll progress down and sit on 500 revs....

I dno if its a bad thing. Oh and my car is manual too....

Sorry if its a repeat of a previous thread guys...

gio if you're gonna flame about searching at least find the magical thread you speak of

in other news, on cold the iacv usually lets more air in to help it get up to operating temp quicker
as it reaches operating temp it'll settle down a few hundred
like i said run out an check under your bonnet before adjusting anything, may or may not be within range for all you know

It's exactly what everyone has been saying + it's best to do it by ear,it ain't hard to hear where the 'sweet spot' is,Feel me?

Keep it between 700-1100 rpm, ain't no rules man,get in,get dirty and btw have fun while ya doing that
