Hello Guys =)

So my EM1's "redline" according to the tacho shows it at just before 8000rpm(7900rpm) or something.. But for some reason i can easily take the car to 8.6/8.7k revs and the rev limiter still doesnt kick in. Is my tacho faulty and not reading the revs properly or is it just normal for the b16's to rev that high?? I thought the rev limiter would kick in around 8.4/8.5k, but i can cleanly go over those revs..

Having the car since november 09, i've red lined 1st gear a number of times.. and never once have i hit the rev-limiter..Normal much?? and NO, i dont want to just rev 1st gear until it hits rev limiter for experimental purposes ( because what happens if my rev-limiter isnt working? and i rev right past 9k, is that even possible?? lol )

In scenarios where i am shifting at about 8.5k sometimes i find that i am locked out of 2nd gear. This isnt normal is it?

Any experiences (personal experiences), or scientific theories or mechanical knowledge is strongly appreciated.

the rev tacho is normally not that accurate.
I have myself hit the rev limit and the engine just cuts.
Was taking up and car jumped up in air, engine over reved and cut.

I think it was close to 8,800 when it cut (as i said they are not that accurate)

Otherwise someone has removed the rev limiter

It’s somewhere around 8500 on mine, which I’ve owned since new, although I rarely hit it. You shouldn’t be able to hit 9000, without a fault somewhere in the ignition cutout, perhaps due to someone bypassing it. But, if it isn't working, I'm sure you'd be able to go past 9000, unless something breaks (conrods?). Why don't you try it out, and report back if it breaks.:D

There shouldn’t be anything stopping you from shifting into second, no matter what the revs – it’s more likely a mechanical problem that is preventing it from going in, such as getting stuck in the gearshift gate, perhaps due to selector wear.

its because youre trying to shift too fast.
