I don’t mean to procrastinate but i am approaching what i consider to be the most important decision of my life. First car: Integra or Prelude?
I realize there are countless amounts of comparisons between the two but i need important specs and info, seems to be particularly hard to find..
So I'm talking the 3rd Gen 93-01 Integra and the 4th Gen 92-96 Prelude.
Specifically GSi and Si (VTi-R of either is looking increasingly unlikely due to budget unless damaged a little).
Any Information gathered on these two legendary coupes would be much appreciated especially acceleration and potential mods XD. Cheers guys.

if you got a prelude you'd have to re register a new forum nick LOL

save the extra amount, and get a VTI-r. your not paying extra just for the engine.. other goodies such as better brakes, minor exterior/interior differences.

What's your budget?
And what car looks better to your eyes?

ive driven both type si and vtir preludes.. and gsi and vtir integras.. vtir is by far heaps better.. i know money is an issue bro.. but in the end result its much better.. if you get an si or gsi.. later you will relised u shouldve saved that tad extra for vtir man. plus like wat cb7 said.. you get more goodies.. vtir are quality cars =] but if i was to choose btw integra or prelude.. ill choose integra =]

when i went shopping for my first desent car ... (everyone needs a peice of crap for the 1st car ... u will just destroy it either way)
i was looking at the Prelude VTIR 97+ and the Integra VTIR 94-2000
after driving both i ended up with a 94 integra vtir - it seemed to drive alot better, i liked the fastback configuration alot more (its REALLY practical) and had alot more potential
now that im a bit older tho i would most probably go the BB6 prelude instead tho
my budget was 15k and i got my teg for 10kish ... i have seen them in the same condition these days at dealers for 6-8k .. shop around and u will get a good vtir at a good price
im not a massive fan of the 94-96 preludes ... just too many of them around and too many wannabe ricer/hoons with them (well in my parts anyway) - i really dont like the look of them either ... but everyone is different anyways
good luck =)
EDIT - just noticed u wer in perth .. definatly go integra vtir ... too many preludes around man, i have seen the teg vtirs at dealers up there so so so cheap now days

yea man i totally agree with The Saint bout the dc2... i've got the pre-facelift 93' and absolutely love the handling of my dc2, not sure if the prelude handles as well though...
i've sat in a prelude vtir and somehow the power delivery isnt quite the same compared to the dc2 when u rev it all the way through...
just my two cents anyway :)

go the integ!

the first Dc2 came out in 94 didnt they?
the BB6 prelude actually has sharper handling and feels lower and flatter than a Dc2 ... but it also feels alot heavier and the power delivery just isnt the same
i find the long hatch on the Dc2 to be VERY handy ... u can put the seats forward and u have urself a ute ... or i even layed in the back of mine at the drive in cinema
This is your most important decision of your life?
I thought studies or career would be more important but anyways I would get the integra.
What is your budget? I would hold out for at least the Vti-R otherwise you will regret it later down the track.

Awesome, thanks for the feedback boys.
Budget is 6K tops by the way but 5K is looking more likely.
I know its low but its all i have saving for 2 years at IGA...
I cant help but wonder if this comparison is bias cos its in the integra section but these are all valid points and i must say, I'm leaning toward the integra :D

For $5g you won't get much, maybe an older Integra like the DA9 model.
For $5g I'd be trying to get myself a '92-'95 Civic Si or VTi (sedan or hatch).

imo, best way to decide (use word or excel to write a bunch of stuff down as you go):
1. look at all cars you are interested in
2. look at what you like about them, basically think "why do i want to buy THIS car?"
3. look at how much each is going to cost you to get what you want
4. look at what parts you will want to change, and how much they will cost (eg: rims, kit, intake)
5. look at how much the final product will have cost you
6. look at how much you will lose on the final product when you sell
7. look at how happy you will be with the final product
X. test drive all the cars at some point. you can do this first, middle or last, just make sure you do do it.
NOTE: number 3, make sure you understand this one. i can buy an integra type r for 13 grand or an integra type r for 26 grand, they are going to be very different cars, and chances are the 13 grand one won't be what i want. maybe it requires a lot of gearbox work, engine work, chances are the seats are wrecked, it's probably been crashed, and high km. so make sure you look at what you will have to spend to get the sort of car you want, and don't just say "oh, i saw the lowest price one for 4 grand, therefore 5 grand should get me what i want".
god i'm bored.

what oyu mean u cant get shit with 5k? have you guys actually gone shopping? i was about to buy a Si prelude with 200,000KMs for 6k and this was the fifth generation. and the car drove good and was stil in good nick
if he wants a integra or prelude, he doesnt want a civic. why do people always bring, buy a civic. civics a nugget stock, and everyone drives civics, they are worth 2k, not worth ur 5k. get ur moneys worth. u can buy a corolla for less then a civic and it would eat it
you cant buy a prelude 4th gen for under 5k? haggle these a lil bit easy can get em for 4.5k

u can easily pick up a 93 model dc4 for around 5k if u got good haggling skills, and even possibly a dc2 vtir with high ks. u just gotta be smart and know how to buy a car. look at the market, a few gsis and vtirs going for around 6k. who says u cant nego to 5k........
OP bring ur 5k to the car your inspecting and just haggle the ****. ive seen the dc4's on the market be there for months, go show them money and they probably take it. i bought a dc4 with just over 200,000KMs for 4 grand..
doesnt listen to these civic boys . just go out and see what u can get.

Don't forget to include:
- Stamp duty
- Insurance
- Leftover cash for excess in case you have an accident (which is pretty much a responsibility, not just a good idea)
Getting a nice Integra or Prelude is hard with a budget of $5g if you want one in good condition that hasn't been bastardised and flogged to death. Then factor in the above costs.
So, thanks for sharing your opinion like I did

Don't buy a cheap car, you'll regret it. If it took you two years to save up 5grand, it's still not enough to own an imported car. Your possibly going to have dodgey engine mounts, tyres worn, engine farkd, scratches, dents, and what not. It'll be imbarrasing man,
If I were you I'd go with a civic, those car's arn't bad. You can stuff around with it all you want and maybe in future you can even put a b18c in it... and race 90LAN for pink's :p:p:p:p:p

Thats not an issue. My dads a mechanic.. knows his S**t. He is pretty bent on finding a lude or teg at the wreckers in need of some body work. Im thinking that may be my best option.
Also ill have about 5.5K total (the $500 for insurance and fuel for a bit) :D

Bit of advice. Save abit more and buy a virgin teg or lude.
Youll regret buying something that needs to be fixed. You end up finding more things that need to be fixed and youll end up spending as much as a good condition car.
Yes you can get a dc2 or early model lude for 5K or so. But id recommend not to.
That decision is entirely up to you though. Ive had my experiences with an eg civic, 2 dc2's and an s15. My mates gone through an ej8, bb6, dc2, fd1 and now dc5r.
I love the dc2. But id have to say that a lude is better. BB6 compared to dc2.
The dc2 was dragged on for 8-9 years with minimal changes.
The prelude how ever saw a change in the bb6. New body, with everything pretty much revised.
Id still stick to the dc2 only because the aftermarket support is greater on the b series than the H series. And I wouldnt buy the bb6 if i had a choice between the dc2 or bb6. But thats my personal opinion.
But if I was to compare the 2. Id go bb6. But if i was to hardcore modify a car. Id go dc2.

Yeah but it will be silly enough to make your dad fix your car, remember that his still got your family to look after and even saving some cash for himself.
Prelude's I've probably seen only 3 out of 13 wreckers, and I've only seen one Integra in the whole of QLD wreckers. It's difficult to find parts, and gets very fustrating.
Man I've moved from Supra's/Skylines to Integra's, I loved Supra's but they were waay to much of my budget. I saw some for 9k but they had damages that needed fixing
The only way I got taste for the Integra was youtube, OzHonda, Asian freinds, and some decent Mechanics.
And to think of it I'm actually happy for buying a Integra, cheaper on fuel, cheap rego, tyres are a decent price, and a much better car Indeed.
So look around for a Civic, do the immpossible mate and I'm sure you'll be happy with it just the way we all made our descion... Be smart about it:)

when was that apart of money with buying a car? i picked my gsi with 200k and it was fine no mechanic damage or anything.
SO guys next time when u buy a car, if ur budget is 5k, better off buying a car for 1k because u will need money for insurance and money when u you crash it.. :)]
yes ofcourse you wil need money and should only buy the car that you can afford the insurance on, but seriosuly, if ur going to buy a car which is of value of 5grand, and u cant even afford insurance, dont even bother buying a car. but if he has a budget of 5k and his working, it doesnt mean that thats his only 5k he will have in his entire life time. if he ever crashes, lets hope not, he can work for the moeny and pay the excess, there is no need to have it part of ur budget

That money was part of buying a car when people grew brains and decided not to be complete fools about doing such a thing. If you buy a car you should be responsible for all the costs associated with it, and if you're not in a financial position to do that then don't dig holes for yourself in the first place.
In my driveway is currently sitting a '98 Integra GSI, '05 Jazz, '94 Civic VTi, '97 Accord VTi-S, '85 City Turbo II and '90 CRX SiR. I'd go into anaphylactic shock if you managed to pick up an Integra of the condition parked in my driveway for $5g. I agree with DC2-PWR - don't cut corners from the get-go by purchasing a cheap car if $5g is all you have to acquire/fix it. You're best off doing it once and doing it properly.
Oh, and if you're budget is $5g you can afford more than a $1k car unless you're one of those random people paying $4g for stamp/insurance! :D
Anyhow, it's not about whether or not you'll have an accident, it's just a matter of 'when'. And even if it's not your fault it still pays to have that legal representation.

have have had mate with both and modded both and i would have to say that save a bit more $$ for the vtir models dohc vtec is worth it as for integ or lude id say integ for many reasons , alot more room for rear seat passengers heaps more useable space with hatch , after market parts are easier to find with more options too , the lude feels fat and heavy to drive and the dc2 tegs are very nimble feel light and sporty ,also as you are a newer driver over details come into play , teg has 1.8L vs 2.2L so better fuel economy and insurance if i was in your situation i would buy a teg .(even with out fuel eco or insurance hassles) al the best for your first car :honda:
