Ummm had this weird issue on my DC5R, wondering if anyone has the same problem as me...

I turn my key to accesories... let the ABS light go off then i turn the car on but OCCASIONALLY but becoming more frequent.. the car makes a crunching sound just slightly after the car goes on if you get me...
Anyone have an idea what this might be???

Thank u.

Do you have a CF spark plug cover? Mine was making the sound and I found out that my CF cover was bent / damaged and I think that's what was making the noise. Swapped it out for my stock one and haven't heard it since.

No i don't but i've been thinking about getting that...
I've been thinking of taking it to my Auto Elec but wanted to see what other people here said first..

Does the 'crunching' disappears when you clutch in ?

I'd be on the same boat if it does =\

No... regardless of clutch in or out it still crunches...
I've rang Honda and they said i need to bring it for a diagnosis which is going to cost $130 just to look at before they touch anything..... a bit annoyed to hear that...
When i get home ill be starting the car and if it crunches again im going to be convinced it's when the car is cold mainly that it occurs.

Starter motor perhaps? not disengaging quickly enough or even showing signs of wear? Definintely a mechanical type noise rather than a vibration noise? do you 'feel' the niose through your feet or hand on the key or just hear the noise?

My auto elec doubts its the starter noise but it is a possibility.
See my ITR has done 111,***km but i don't know if the timing belt was done back at 98,***km when i bought the car as the car is originally from Queensland. (Im the first Victorian Owner, bought from Eastern Honda)
Could it possibility be my timing chain??
I don't feel the noise, i hear it though..
Popped the bonnet today and it's coming in the region of where the break booster/Fan belt

Does it sound like fingernails on a blackboard? Could be the starter solenoid being sticky, causing the starter motor to still be engaged when the engine starts. It will sound like when you try to "start" an already running engine. Goes "SCREEECH"

DC5R does not have a timing belt. It uses a timing chain. If the sound is coming from the timing chain region and only when starting, then your timing chain tensioner could have worn out. You can replace that first since an Honda OEM replacement chain tensioner is cheap. Hopefully the guide rails have not worn out, otherwise it will cost much more to replace those parts as well.

My major service is in June but i don't think i can wait to much longer as it's a nuisance this bloody noise...
It's not like a black board screech as your said above but like a gearbox "crunch" sound.

You got an aftermarket flywheel? Mine started making that noise when I installed my flywheel...

Idk if it's aftermarket...
From when i bought it from the Honda dealership, they said the only aftermarket item was the Headunit lol...

Bring it to a Honda specialist and get them to check the timing chain tensioner.

It is not supposed to make that sound. I have an aftermarket lightweight flywheel on my car and it doesn't make that sound.

Come to terms that it must be my starter motor as i put my kill switch on today and as i tried to start the car (knowing it wouldn't start) there were slight crunches as the car was trying to turn over..

Wondering if im better off just to Recondition my starter motor if i can or just get a new one.
Cheers
