Hi guys,

I just upgraded my wheels to 18X8.5+30 on the rear and +35 on front. My car is on stock height, and it seems to rub my guards when having passengers on the back and turning/going over humps. Would you rather recommended changing the rears to +35 or getting my guards rolled?

Also, what's the perfect tyre size recommended? Ozzy tyres gave me 215/35R18, which proves to be too small, but I really can't do anything now, beside buy new tyres...

Cheers.

I'm on stock height, and I got my guards rolled. I'm running 18X8.5+35. Would 225/45R18 fit with no problem? I wanna run bigger tyres...

it should be no problem, u got ur guards rolled too and stock height would fit those tyres fine

Another question, I want to know if my car will go higher or lower.

Old setup: 17x7.5+48 with 215/45R17
New setup: 18x8.5+30 with 225/40R18

& I'm planning to go with a bigger tyres 225/45R18. Or is it safer/better to go with 225/40R18?

use this http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

compared to ur old setup, 225/40 would raise ur car abit higher than stock, going 225/45 would raise it higher, due to the total circumference of the whole wheel being larger than ur stock

Considering my current wheel setup 18X8.5+35 with 215/40R18. I want to add spacers, what would be the perfect amount without needing to camber? I've also rolled my guards. I'm considering 15 or 20mm? Would 20mm cause to my problems?

You would be fine running 17x8 +32. I Run the the same offset and width with 225/45 tyres without too many problems

Suspension: coilovers
Guard Modifications: rolled guards
Issues with Setup: scrubbing guard lining on bumps

As of the 17x9 +28 I'm not too sure but i assume you would need a fait bit of camber to fit that

I would go with 215/40. Giving it more stretch will be better suited since you're sizing up on wheels. I'm running 18x8.5+35 with 215/40 & it's perfect.

With an offset of 42 at the rear, you wouldn't need any mods. but I would rather go with 215/40 than 225/40.

Why cant this setup run with coils? Isnt 17x7+55 (195 tyres instead of 225)
the standard wheel size?

Hey guys what Will I need to fit 17x9 +35 BBS LMs
I've decided to run 225 rear and 215 front
I know I would need camber arms for rear and need my guards rolled.

Was wondering what else is needed or changes to be made for this to fit

Car currently running 215/45/17 F&R
front; 1.5" drop
Rear; 1.4" drop

Heres an update to my setup:

Car Model: Civic FD1
Front Wheel and Tyre Size: 18x9+32 225/40/18
Rear Wheel and Tyre Size: 18x9 +32 215/40/18
Suspension: Buddyclub N+ coilover lowered to tuck one finger tyre
Guard Modifications: Front and rear guards rolled flat. Rear bumper tab shaved.
Issues with Setup: Front wheels rub a little on fast turns and midcorner bumps (thinner tyre might help). No problems with rear even with full load.

Hey guys what kind of suspension setup would i need to achieve a drop leaving a 1-1.5 finger gap? what i mean is how much i should be lowering the car
Currently running 18x8.5 +37(front) / +42 (rear) and tyre 225/40R18

Thanks!

You can just get lowered springs but I would personally get coilovers. My theory is Do it once, Do it right.
I know its expensive but its worth it. You can adjust your height down to the last mm you want it to be. Also has Damper
adjustment which is very handy.

And as for your wheels. I think if you drop your car 1.5" you will most likely rub unless you go for 215/40/18 tyres.

I was stock hight but no problems at all mind you I had camber bolts in front and camber top links in rear with a custom wheel alignment no problems what so ever

I was running 1 deg front and 1.5 rear which is less then stock to improve rear end grip.

if i run 17 x 8 +32 wheels with 225/45 on stock height/no guards rolled.

will i have problems? i've had a quick look in this thread, and issues i may expect is just full car/dips or potholes

most probably if i hit a big dip/bump.

how about full car?

Try going for 215/45/17 instead.

My front wheels are like that. no problems

How do 17's look on the FN2 compared to the stock 18s? Can't find a picture of one. I'm looking at getting one and have some 17x8+42 CR Kais I'd be interested in fitting.

those will fit fine
though 17s look rather tiny on a FN2

Yep they are r33 GTR wheels, 17x9 +30 offset... aka "GTR offset"

Not sure if they scrub on the inner arms, or guard liners as I never rolled on that set up. I only bolted it on to take a pic. (They didn't foul on anything when bolting them up).

I have purchased another set though, since selling the 180 & I've only bolted up one on the front of the car so far after lowering it. I put 215/45/17 yoko S drives on them all round. With the current height I'm at (approx 1 finger between the guard and tyre) the wheels stuck out about 25-30mm? The corner/edge where the side wall meets the tread sits almost flush with the guard, sticks out about 3-5mm. I'm sure with the car a little lower and about 1.5 neg camber it should tuck in nicely. I'm assuming it will rub on the guard liners on the front. Rears I'm waiting to roll the rears first, install the coilovers and camber arms, before I put them on. Only trouble I can see would be clearance on the rear trailing arms.

a 17x9 +30 compared to your 16x8 +30 (+15 effective offset)
inner clearance: 28mm less
outer position: retract by 2mm

I guess check your inner clearances and go from there, atm your effective offset sticks out 2mm more than the r33 gtr wheels. So nah they won't be hanging out too far... Unless you're planning on getting a 9" rim in a lower offset?

Not sure what car ur referring to though, but I assume its a dc2r? or maybe u have a ep3?

Any pics of your current wheels, on the car?

Hey man, yeah it's for an ep3. I've rolled the fron and rear guards already.
When u say retract outer position by 2mm, do you mean it won't hang out as much from my current setup by 2mm?
I'll take a pic when I can, probably this afternoon.

Is that a 215 on the 9" rim? I was thinking of running 205/35 or 40. How much of a stretch was it?
Will it need start-ya-bastard to get it on? Lol.

Correct, it won't hang out as much as your wheels by 2mm.
Yep I was/am running a 215/45/17 on the 9' rims... Mild stretch imo. I've also run a 215/40/17 on the same rim, similar amount of stretch, just looks smaller (I ran them on the front of the 180 to stop the scrubbing issues).

205/40's on a 9" rim is a fair stretch, I don't think I would feel safe rolling on a 35 profile tyre! (hard cornering, hitting a pot hole etc)
There some pics in here http://www.tyrestretch.com/
of a 205/40/17 on a 17x9, you'll be able to see the edge of the tyre is more vertical, the rim protector bit will sit further away from the rim lip. Where as a 215 will curve slightly over the rim lip, that's if the tyres have those rim protector bits. The amount of stretch will also be dependant on what brand tyre u use, some will run wider than others in the same size.

I'd go a 205/45, if you really want to get a 205... at least that way you'll be closer to having your speedo almost correct.

That size looks to be fine, from what I have seen already on some EP's set up for grip... Similar setup's I have been looking at were a 17x9 +35, one was running 235/45's the other 245/40's. Both have rolled guards all round.

The 17x8.5 +31 will sit in, retract by 2mm compared to the 17x9 +35. The tyre/wheel will sit quite flush with the front guards, the of amount poke/flushness will be dependant on what height and camber your at. More if your higher, less if your lower etc...

I am in the process of fitting my 17x8 +38, 245/40's to the front of my EP, will get back to how it goes in regards to how it handles/performs. I reckon a 235/45 on the 8.5 should be pretty sweet!

Car Model: EP3R
Front Wheel and Tyre Size: 17 x 9 + 30 , 235/40/17
Rear Wheel and Tyre Size: 17 x 9 + 30 , 215/40/17

Guard Modifications: Rear Guards rolled, Front Guard to be rolled as it scrubs from time to time.

17x8 +30 will sit flush to slight poke, depending on your final height and camber. You should be fine running the 225`s. I'd look into getting rear camber arms to correct your negative camber. Fronts you most likely will need a roll, and maybe trim the splash guards.

Only pics i have for reference:

http://i613.photobucket.com/albums/tt212/KAIZENRPS_13/17x8531-1.jpg?t=1319712382

17x8.5 +31, unsure of tyre size and camber. Your potential set up will sit in/retract 5mm compared to above.

http://i613.photobucket.com/albums/tt212/KAIZENRPS_13/IMG_7706-1.jpg

17x8 +38, 245/40, i was at approximately -1.0 camber. Your set up will sit out a further 8mm compared to the enkei`s.

Rears i don't have any good pics at similar height, for reference.

Here's a pic from ephatch.com

http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k80/lbkiml/EP3/HX0Q0495.jpg

17x8 +38 with 235/45/17. Mild drop with ~1.1 degree camber. Your set up will sit out a further 8mm, running the 225`s you may need to dial in -1.5 maybe more to tuck the tyre in.

Running 17x9 +20 with 215/45/17 all round.

Got a new set of wheels/tyres coming in for track setup the next few weeks:

17x9 +35 245/40/17
17x8.5 +30 225/45/17

Will be interesting to see what I need to run them. Panel beater said he can space my guards for me if I need more clearance. Hoping to run no more than -2.5 degree camber at the fronts but should have enough adjustability to go to -3.5 if I need to. Not sure how well that will go for handling though. Time will tell!

thinking of 17x8.5 +30 on 205/40/17 OR 17x9 +35 on 215/40/17

so far guards have been rolled and im on coils.

how bad will those set ups be on scrubbing? u rkn i can carry a passenger or two in the back lol?
which would be the most preferable for the minimalist amount of headache?

17x8.5 +30 on 205/40/17 will give you least headache

18x9's on the back of mine and i cant have anyone in the back seats. guards rolled too.

im now on 215/40/17 tyres on a 17x9 +35 rim with a mild guard roll and dropped on coils. no scrubbing.

im riding on 17x9 +35 right now with no issues on inner clearance. on coilovers and 215/40/17s tho. i think that if i were to run 235s on em there would probably be some issues with inner clearance and guard scrubbing.

18x8 +45 on coils should be fine yeh? but people have said 45 offset is bad... why so??

+45 isnt bad unless ur go any wider than 8". then u'll probably run into inner clearance issues. but 18x8 +45 just wont compliment the look of the car as much, since it will sit a fair bit inside the guards. i think flush fitment looks much better. gives cars better stance

if you're talking about the gold work meisters in 18x8+45, i've been running them for about a week :p one thing i can say, no scrubbing ftw (1 finger tyre tucked)

have u had people in the back yet? last year i was running 235/40 tyres on a 18x7.5 +42 rim (old set of tyres that came with the rims) and it scrubbed every time i did left turns and on dips. later i put on some 225s and there were no scrubbing issues at all even with a full car load and lowered suspension. also had 235s on 19x8.5 +35 rims and that scrubbed a bunch on stock suspension with just one person in the rear.

will 18 x 8 +44 fit for fd2?,
planning to run buddyclub n+ coils in the future :D

should be ok, i've got 18x8.5 +47 on coilovers .. no issues

I got my wheels installed.

18x8 +40 offset Enkei GTC01 with 225/40R/18 Bridgestone RE002.

Fits perfect. Only minor issue with hitting the humps too hard though. My wheels hit the fender.....

What should I do? Will having coils solve the problem? Do I need to roll my fender?

On my FD

I'm running 17x8 +30 205/45R17 with 20mm spacers on front, on coils and have only a little scrubbing with guards half rolled. I could roll them completely flat and flush, but i'm already cracking paint so that can wait.

I'm running the 17x8 +30 215/45R17 on the back, rolled as much as I could, only scrub on the back bumper screw when there's more than 2 in the car.

... Just to save people going through the 500 odd posts.

There is a lot more information in there, I've purely quoted the informative posts, there are some post throughout the pages where its been chit-chat over 5 posts with "should be" "maybe" "could" but no definite, I haven't quoted those.

Good work on collating all that info lolmclol

Found a handy "Wheel Fitment, Tyre Stretch, Rolling Radius and Speedometer Error" calculator, which allows you to kind of visualise how your new wheel/tyres will sit, in relation to your old wheel.

Please take note of the note about the positioning of the strut: The strut shown in the diagram is for show only - Don't worry if the wheel looks like it fouls!

Quick question guys.

Will 235/45/17 fit on stock EP3 wheels 17x7+45. Have an opportunity to buy a 2nd hand set for decent price. But after doing some research they may be too wide for stock wheels.
Anyone have any experience with this size on a 17x7 wheel?

To be honest, I don't know how it will look but the issue I can see is you'll have more tread which will increase the amount of resistance when you're driving thus using more fuel and maybe throwing off the speedo?

I'm probably wrong, but I'm pretty sure that is right.

FYI: The stock tyres are 205/45/17.

I wouldn't run a 235/45. The tyre will be extremely tall. The tyre would also balloon on the rim lol.

its possible to get a 255 tyre on a 8" rim, but it's not ideal... plus you would have a lot of scrubbing issues with with such a meaty tyre

Depending on which wheels you run at the rear, you may/may not have enough inner clearence to the rear trailing arm. (I'm not 100% at stock height)

Fully lowered, I've previously run a 16x8.5 +37, which was undriveable as it rubbed against the trailing arm. With a 5mm or 3mm (can't remember which one off the top of my head) slip on spacer is just cleared but scrubbed under very hard cornering.

Previous to that I ran 16x8 +38 in the rear, which just scrubbed against the trailing arm under heavy cornering. Wasn't even enough that I noticed it on the day.

Would 17 x 7 +24 on ep3 fit. Car is lowered with no gap. Currently have guards rolled and have 17 x 8 +35 and they fit no issues but concerned 17x7 +24 is too aggressive..

To answer your question, I don't think you'll have any problems as your inner clearance is better, but your outer clearance is decreased a tiny bit. (disregard tyre size, I just typed in numbers at random)

So I got the wheels 17 x 7 +24 and fitted them on the car. Word of advice, this is too aggressive if you are lowered. Had to raise my rears about and inch so there is gap between guard and tyre.. If you want your tyres with no gap sitting under guard then best to stick to around +35 offset.

I was looking at the picture of the wheel specs and didnt realize it wasnt yours.
But i agree with lolmclol, You will need some camber.

But going from 45 to 40 profile you wont notice the difference. I couldnt fulllock with 45 profile and i swapped to 40 profile and worked fine.
Barely any physical difference. Front wheels are still tucked and ride height dropped about 10mm

So now you have to pick which direction you want to take the car. Low and hard parked (Like me with ****ed up guards)
or keep it functional. Keeping it functional then you shouldnt care about wheel gaps

Or just be a fully hektic guy and let it rub. Eventually it will rub out the bumper tab or if its the actual bumper then sand it back and get some touch up paint ;)
as long as its not rubbing the guards

A mate of mine gets around on a set of Advan RGII's which are similar offsets, 17x8.5 +31 with 225/45's all round. Scrubs a bit under hard cornering in the rear and when the back seats are loaded up.

I'd say u may face problems but would really depend how low you are and how much camber. I would suggest rolling guards as well. I'm on 17x7 +24 on 215/45 and lots of scrub when it was lowered past the tyre. Had to raise it about an inch so there was gap between wheel and guard and now only scrubs when I hit dips in the road. On the other hand, I previously had 17x8 +35 and that was perfect with guards rolled and low.

Is negative camber really required to run 17x7.5+30 on 215/45?

Cause Im thinking maybe I can just get the guards rolled and raise the car up if it is required to, to run that set up.

At the moment, Im running stockies 17x7+45 on 215/45 and its just about 2-3cm above the tyres. At a good height, no scrubs or anything.

Hey EG5,

no sure of the offset, but they look like drifteks.

Ive fitted the wheels today, the rear gaurds skim the tyres when going over speed humps and turning hard. would probably scrape all way if 3 people were to sit at the back. Didnt have problems up front.

The sizing looks good but does not love bumps. Should i go down one size in width or height of tyre?

thanks

Im not too experience with track set up but for a 8 inch wheel, i would go for 225/45.

Depending on your height, you may clear it without camber arms because i had 215/45 on 17*9+22 on the rears at one stage. This was on Tein springs and natural camber.

Will it be too aggressive?

How much negative camber for 17x9 +22 should we run in order not to worry much about tire wear?

Depends on cars height... I have -2 degrees natural camber. Takes about 6 months to wear out my tyres.
Make sure you reset your toe. Toe causes tyres to wear really fast.

I would say. Make them straight as possible.

This is 8 months of Camber+Toe wear lol
Both sides looked like that.

Shouldn't be any issues. A few mates of mine run 17x8.5 +31's all round with 225/45's and I think the other runs 215/45's. Only very slight rubbing under load in the rear on the 225/45 setup, on non rolled guards.

SHRUKA
30-03-2015, 08:25 PM
Oh I forgot to mention the height changes.
Lowering pass one inch will affect the steering in every way but it's hard to keep a nice looking EP3 if you don't lower it pass that point.
Also running offsets below stock "+45" will increase scrub radius. This causes movement in the suspensions.

What do you suggest? Run a higher profile tyre to fill in the gap? or just deal with the lowering effects?

Mikeyy168
30-03-2015, 08:28 PM
So you lowered more than 1"?
You have what they call bump steer. Get roll centre adjusters and you'll find that it works wonders. I drove my car lowered for a few months. Shit scary going next to a truck. Put on the roll centre adjusters yesterday and its perfect again

For very odd reasons, 17x9 +35 at the fronts causes harsh bump steer even with RCA's. When I changed to my stockies 17x7 +45, it actually made a huge difference with very slight bump steer.

I swear its the offset or I just need more camber? Definitely dont want to raise my car any higher.

From experience, I believe you can clear the rear trailing arms with -2.5 camber or more. You can use spacers to be safe but I dont think its required.

I'm thinking of factory GTR R32 wheels, 16x8+30, with 225/50R16.
On an EP3, stock height, -2' camber all round.
Anyone tried this before?

That's 15mm less than the stock offset for EP3, right?

One thing I didn't consider before running 225/50s on 16x8 is that it creates *heaps* of slop in the steering. I ran the FD RX7 wheels on a FN2, they are +50 offset and fit nicely compared to the stock 18x7.5 +55 offset. I think they are the same weight as R32 GTR wheels, also 7 kg.

Now running 225/45 17 +50 (also from FD RX7 :P ) on 17x8.5 on the fronts and the steering response is so much better, it's a night and day difference. :)

However, I am tempted (but not confident) if 245/40 17 will fit on those 17x8.5 fronts :) . Don't really want to run 235/45 17 as the sidewall is a nearly as tall as the 225/50 16, and it will increase the gearing (whereas my crappy FN2 needs all the help it can get from gearing, unlike your EP3 rocket!).

If you have pretty stiff suspension and run stiff tyres on your EP3, you should be happy enough with the steering response on 16x8 I think. :)

Thanks for that. I didn't end up going for GTR wheels. I went for another popular OEM choice... The Evo 8 Enkeis! 17x8+38 perfectly flush on A EP3 with -2' camber all round. On a 235/45/17 Achilles ATR Sport tire, the guards need to be rolled. Still rubs occasionally.

I have an awaiting set of CE28 in the same specs. I think I'll go for a 235/40/17 on those.

Looking at a couple of different setups for my FN2, how would I go about running 18x8 +42 or 18x8.5 +42's, would I have much trouble with scrubbing or anything? Also thinking of using the 225/40's on the stock 18's, they have plenty of tread still.
