Go read reviews where they cut the filters open. The cheap ones use cardboard endcaps and the bypass valves are shit. Then you have the filter media. Some have more, while others have less. Some use proper filter media, others use a cheap paper filter.

Genuine Honda filters from Japan and the U.S are good.

The Aus ones are also pretty good...they are like $25 from the dealer but whatevs

seriously for the price difference between OEM and some generic cheap shit brand, why bother, oil filter is without a doubt one of the most important factors to engine maintenance and possibly engine wear. For the sakes of $5-$10 dollars difference.

Thanks for the reply everyone, Why would you consider Ryco as shit, Its pretty much a reputable filter in all workshops and shops, I've been using it on my previous car 200sx for years with no problems, has anyone had any bad experiences using it on the s2000?
I Actually got one yestiday, should I bother returning it for an OEM?

I'd agree with the Ryco ones being inferior.
Had a mate who cut up a Purflux(euro filter, possibly one of the best) and a Ryco a few years back. The Purflux had about double the filter media and it was much finer, better quality and for the price saving, I'd not bother with anything but genuine if they are good.
I have found on my resto-ed car(Renault R10) the Ryco are rubbish and the claim of anti-drain back valve is not as good as they say. (just bought one because there was a shortage of genuine ones)
What filter brand do Honda use as genuine ones?

My point being, that Ryco make replacement filters, which are cheap, cheap is made to sub standards with cost being a priority and not quality. IMO don't use a Ryco and fit an oem one. Peace and mind for the sakes of a few bucks.

I agree with japs2k. My mechanic used a cheaper non-oem filter (because honda was closed at the time) and it turned out to start leaking at the gasket after a week. I learnt my lesson, save yourself in the long run and buy oem.

interesting. I wonder how Ryco can claim their filters are manufactured to OEM quality?
Must be based on something.... ISO standard???? I had a look on their website but there is nothing relating to testing etc

All I use too.

They are a good filter. But the main reason I use them is the 1" nut on the end makes them easy to remove and refit. I get them for $11 each and buy 6-10 at a time.

So back to the main topic.....everyone recommends Honda OEM because its the best and almost the same price as aftermarket ones, and no one had any bad experiences with Ryco on their S2K?????

have a look at Coopers Oil filters if your looking for OEM replacement (shitloads better than ryco; wont leak from o-ring) otherwise try the DR1FT oil filters. they come with a magnet in them to gather all the metal fractiles that wizz around your oil system

Why save a couple of dollars on aftermarket brands when you're already spending so much on a car? I'm not sure how good Ryco is but how bad can Honda Oil Filter get?

I was also told that aftermarket companies have to build to oem spec or higher to sell their products. I've just installed a ryco on my b16a, a week later no oil pressure. will let you know what the deal is..

Oem or Oem replacement?

I think what he means is that RYCO are the Original Equipment Manufacturer of the filters fitted in the factory of many brands. Didn't think they were Hondas supplier though. Thought Honda used Fram.

Source?

The s2000 specific oil filter is 15400-PCX-004. They are made in Japan or the USA. Ryco does not manufacture in either of these countries.

Buy genuine 100%

For the sake of 20$, I wouldn't go past it.
