Hey guys, I got my car tuned by Dyno Dave at Premier Motorsports yesterday, using a new ecu called proecu developed by an adelaide based dude called Evan. Bare with me, as this review should be quite long. ;)

Background
I've been in the market for an ecu for about about 6 months now. Below is a list of my current modifications (that would affect power) and a slight description on each one :

Intake:
J's Racing Tsuchinoko Chamber
A.K.A the Whale Penis, its a short ram carbon fiber intake
with a huge reservoir , which makes the peak power figures
suffer, but is excellent for throttle response.

Header:
Spoon Sports 4-2-1
4-2-1 By name but more of a compromise between 4-2-1
and 4-1 header as the collector length for the 2-1 is only
about 1.5" long. This header hangs low and I've had to
de-slam my car so i dont scratch the damn thing.. this
header has a 2.5" collector.

Exhaust:
Fujitsubo Power Getter
A catback with 2 Resonators, 1 huge muffler and 1 long
ass mofo tip. 2.5" construction, not loud at all, but flows
well.

Head Gasket:
Spoon Sports Thinner headgasket.
Rumored to just be a 2ply version of the 3ply honda head
gasket. This raises the compression slightly.

Cam Gears:
Hanny's Offsetted Cams
Offsetted for high end power, there are many differing opinions
on this practice, but to each their own, I think they make high
end more insane, but on the other hand make idle a little rough.

Miscellaneous:
Engine Oil:
Castrol Formula R 5W-30
Tranny Oil:
Castrol Syntrax
Spark Plugs:
Greddy branded Iridiums.
Cat:
Tuffy Tone High Flow Cat
Stickers:
PROECU :D :D :D

And here is the review for PROECU :
A million words in one photo

The RED line is the base run
The BLUE line is the run after 2 hours of tuning by Evan and Dave

First of All dynos and numbers don't mean much, but lets get it over and done with.

The Red line (stock) is rough as guts with a drop in power at VTEC,
and a surge up through to redline. A similar story is shown by the
torque curve below it.

The vtec cross over point was lowered to about 5.2k ( and as dave
said " You tell me where it kicks in?" I had no idea until he told me =P )

The gains are everywhere. The power between 2-3 thousand revs gains
5kw With a 15kw gain in the midrange, and a 7k overall gain at peak
power. And an overall smoother curve. Whereas it was all over the place
prior to tuning.

Overall Impression:
1) Anyone who had driven the car before and after, would
be able to tell that the vtec power surge that i had before
had changed. Prior to tuning, My car would go insane whenever
it hit 5.7k (vtec cross over) and the car would wheelspin to
kingdom come. After tuning, the power delivery is MUCH more
smooth. VTEC is just a sound. and the car is definitely faster
than before.

2) The throttle is crazily precise. (something to do with the way
it was tuned? I'm sure dave and or Evan can shed some light on this)
The response is definitely different, even shifting up gear normally,
the car shudders cos of me getting of the gas too quickly. And when
i hang it at whatever rev, and i step on it there is :ZERO lag. Either
that or im getting old and I'm getting slow =P

Driver's Impression.
(I think there are a few things that ONLY the driver of the car would
notice, albeit not HUGE things, they ARE different)

1) First thing I felt, was when I drove it off the Dyno, within moving
5 meters from the Dyno. I could feel the car's idle was VERY smooth,
like stock, and being the 30 degrees it was (explains the lowfigure? )
I turned on the Aircon, and needle moved VERY slightly, but corrected i
tself in no time. Unlike before tuning the car would struggle to fix the
aircon problem at idle. And would take about 5-10 seconds to adjust,
and not to a perfect standard either.

2) The Overall feel of the car is. STOCK. but with all power mods
accounted for. It's Amazing, feels SMOOOOOTH ...

3) I only noticed this after returning the ecu to Evan, for him to take
back to Adelaide to add some modules(read GOODIES) to. The b18c
being torqueless as it is down low, didn't bog at all at low end on
take off. But without the ecu, bogs like a mofo

This is MY understanding of PROECU (Once again Evan can DEFINITELY
Shed more light on this) does not have a piggyback device, it is realtime
tuning of the stock honda obd1 ecu. Hence you can retain your aircon etc.

The program can support anything you may be running, Boost Support,
Individual Throttle Body Support, Data Logging, Launch Control, Vtec Shift
Point Adjustment, Redline Adjustment as far as I know.

Also not to mention Evan is setting Launch Control for me at 4k rpm (Yes I'm
pussy haha :D ) So when I am at standstill, I can hold the accelerator
to the floor and the fuel will cut at 4k rpm, until I want to launch. This was
and is free of charge, as are the other modules such as boost support.

At the moment this is unavailable for K series. But i think its available for a range of other hondas.

OK .. FLAMESUIT IS ON .. bring on the replies ;););)

PICTURES AND VIDEOS TO COME SOON!

I have been talking to Evan over the last few months about offering the ProEcu in Sydney alongside the Hondata systems that I already sell and then Eric came along and setup a deal with Evan to do his car and now we have tuned it and I am very very happy with the results. From a tuners point of view all software on the market today takes a little bit to get used to but this setup we did in under 2hrs and the features are very good and the software is VERY easy to use and not that much different to RomEditor that we tune S100-200 Hondata with (Sorry Evan) but it is just the windows format that they all use now.Ok this car surprised me when I ran it up on the dyno before we tuned it the power output was alot better than I had seen from an untuned DC2R with the normal mods done to it (but Hanny's cam timing does make good top end on a DC2R).Because Evan has no DC2R maps we started with a STD P30 map from memory and I was very surprised at how quick I could get the AFR's where I wanted them and Evan's smile was getting bigger with every dyno run as the car was responding very well to tuning and all I wanted was to get rid of the Vtec kick and wanted a dyno graph as smooth as I could.Eric said to me in the weeks leading up to tuning his car he would be happy with 120kw and a car that made solid mid range power and this was achieved using an AUSSIE made product so very well done Evan all your hard work has now paid off.     Well done Evan

When are you guys coming to Perth ?As I said to you before I will come over in the new year but we need a few cars to setup and tune to make the trip worth while as to fly over there and back would cost me around $600-700 dollars return on top of that we have to hire a dyno + pay me for my time.

Hi Guys

I though I'd better tune in and address some key points that have come out of the discussions in this thread. To be honest, I am reluctant to post on this thread as it directly involves a product of mine. The intention is not to shamelessly plug the product.

Firstly, the product is in perfect working order, finished ! It works as proven.
There are some legals I need to look into & further need to build in some extra software/hardware protection before this hits the dealers.
This is likely to not occur until next year, so unfortunately the product will not even become available to tuners (sorry Dave) until this time. Please understand, from a business perspective these issues are extremely important. Patience is a virtue.

Secondly, price. I dont think this is the forum to discuss pricing and have instructed Eric & Dave to not comment. The business model has not been defined at this stage, but rest assured, it will be competitively priced. I will have a cost structure finalised upon release early next year.

Thirdly, Why Eric? Well its a case of right place, right time. I needed to meet Dave in person to demonstrate the power/ease of this product, and essentially, Eric was the vehicle to facilitate this.

Finally, and most importantly, I as mentioned earlier, this is not about shamelessly promoting this product. Going forward, in all likeliness, I will probably not even use ozhonda as the promotion vehicle. For details, questions etc, please take it offline and perhaps PM me or email me at evan@proecu.com

This product is purely an alternative to many other solutions available for tuning hondas. I do not want to directly compete or be compared to others. You will not hear me publicly criticise any other product.
As a consumer, and to be completely honest & fair, most aftermarket ECU's will provide you great results when tuned properly. It is entirely up to you to decide which path to take when deciding on a product. I am simply here to provide another alternative.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank both Dave & Eric for the experience and also the many other people who have enquired about ProECU.
I hope this memo has answered some questions surrounding the product.

On a final note, stay tuned, coz I'm excited, BIG KEV style!

Thanks again

Yup, flew out to Sydney, met dynodave (he's a grumpy prick! just kidding - nice guy) gave him a demo of the product, he tuned the car, all was good.

Flew back same day....airplanes & exhaust fumes dont mix well..... ever thrown up on a plane?? haha only kidding, but it was a long day I guess.

I reckon PROECU should come with a warning.

After tuning, I gave it some, and the airfreshener thing flew off, after first gear
spread all over my car, and evan and I just got these insane headaches from the fumes...

Bloody proecu ... haha

Nice work Evan!!

b.t.w. are you "the original Evan" off the pgmfi forums?

Will the finished product be end user tunable, or will the software only be available to dealers?

Will it have datalogging capabilities or the provision to utilise existing datalogging software such as Ecucontrol?

Heres to supporting Australian developed products.

James.

dave had a go with my car for a couple of days last week, he said he didn't change much, but all of a sudden i'm at 400km and still got 1/4 of a tank to go. i'm very happy about that since when i dropped it off to him i was getting 300-320 on a tank.
