Hi all

Has anyone replaced their rear speakers with 6x9's (not in parcel shelf)?

Did you use an enclosure? why/why not?

Hi all

Has anyone replaced their rear speakers with 6x9's (not in parcel shelf)?

Did you use an enclosure? why/why not?

the stock rear speakers in dc2 are behind the rear interior panel.

you cant fit 6x9's in the stock speaker holder. if you want 6x9's you will need to make up your own speaker bracket. and i dont know if there would even be enough room behind the interior panel to hold a 6x9.

the stock speakers are 6" or maybe a little smaller.

i have 6.5" speakers in my rear and they fit snug in the stock speaker bracket.

hope that helps.

thanks for that.

if i were to mount them in the factory panel, would it need an enclosure or fibreglass stuffing?

tbh. im not entirely sure, but.

i highly doubt a big enough enclosure for a 6x9 would fit behind the interior panel and i dont know how fibreglassing would work.

this isnt a very good picture (taken from team-integra.net) but this is what the rear speaker bracket is like

http://www.team-integra.net/images/BAEC1978-D3A7-4405-AB2D-2761DC15A96D/articles/audio/rearspeaker/11-rear_speaker_mount.jpg

so it has the speaker using the air behind the interior panel.

ooo nice.

perhaps cutting that mould a bit to fit a 6x9 in it... although id lose that dividing barrier...

suggestions everyone?

may i ask, are you going to be getting a sub?

specialst

of course u can.

no sub this time around. my last car had a sub n kinda tired of doof doof (of offense).

this set up will be a 4ch amplifier to power a pair of 6x9's and a pair of 6" type s speakers. =) the head unit will be an alpine head unit.

ill do a write up for the 6x9 install when my amp cabling n connectors arrive in the mail.

ahk. well im not sure how you will be able to mount some 6x9's there.

the opening of the grill for the rear speaker is only 6-6.5" aswell.

yeah im not sure either... where theres a will theres a way.

ill defnitely be taking the whole side panel off as well.

roughly, with the speaker brakets, it looks like im gna have have to cut it into 2 pieces. a quick google search has seen ppl do it so its gotta be possible.

my main concern is that barrier to seperate the rearward soundwaves. will rig something up for that if i can.

do u think its important to have that barrier?

im not entirely sure, but if you do decide to tackle this make sure to take pics for us!

not a problem! pics will be up in the DIY write up. the cables have been ordered and are coming.

i found the article on TI u mentioned and the photos are quite helpful. Its given me a rough speaker seating position.

i have the feeling there other out there who would like 6x9's in their DC tegs. of course remember to amplify them else they sound poo.

hopefully your fronts are gonna receive AT LEAST this much attention.. if you havent already.

looking forward to your write up :)

hehe. my fronts were the easy choice. my set up is quite simple with nothing fancy:

Alpine head unit
4 channel Sony amplifier 4x50w RMS powering (sure beats the head units 4x50w peak power)
the rear pair of 60w RMS Sony 6x9 3 way and
the front pair of 80w RMS 6.5" Alpine Type S 2 way coaxial

Cabling will be 8 gauge amp cabling and 16 gauge speaker cabling. FYI, i would probably be able to get away with 10 gauge since not much power here but ive got my hands on some 8 gauge. Also, 16 gauge cabliing is sufficient for most speaker runs < 50 ft (whatever that is in metres).

this set up's aim is good quality sound for everyday enjoyment. i predict this set up to be able to handle some decent in car noise levels.

the confounders of this combo in a teg is: 1) fitting the rear speakers and 2) running all the new speaker wiring. Its the time needed thats a pain, but overall its not difficult to be honest.

As said above, my previous car's sound system had a sub n ive grown out of doof doof thumps.

I called the shop today and wiring wont arrive till friday min (lets give them till tuesday next week lol).

another difficulty to mex things up a bit is: my deck doesnt have 2 RCA Pre-Amp outputs, so ill need to utilitse the head units' speaker outputs as amplifier high level inputs. this also makes wiring a bit more messy.

nb. ive ordered 40m worth of speaker cable for this reason lol

i have custom precuts for 6x9s. They came with the speakers i bought which were from a DC2. You can have them if you wish..

I also have 6x9s in the rear factory position(of an EG hatch), using mdf brackets and put some acoustic foam in there for the lulz.

Everything has been installed. Im happy to say that its complete and that this install isnt for the faint hearted!!!

Unfortunately there will be no write up for the 6x9's. I am greatly disappointed with the performace of my 6x9's even while powered by the amp. IMO a good pair of 6" coaxials +amp are a better choice

As a note though, i will say again what others have said, bracket fabication is needed and easy but do it at your own risk.

Thanks for staying tuned everyone.
