ek1/ek4... what is it?

what is an ek1 and ek4? i know the ek9 is the type r version

ek4 is vti-r hatchback

ek1 is basically all the other models for EK sedan and hatchback; like the vti, cxi and gli

Coupe's on the other hand are EJ/EM

The EK4 hatch is quite a legend, and pretty rare in Australia because it didn't sell very well when it was new. It was very expensive compared to the competition at that time. It's essentially a luxo version of the EK9 Type R that we never had on sale here.

I love the EK4, but it's very rare to see a good one come up for sale.

where EK4 only goes from 95-98, so only vtir was preface.

For every 15-20 CXi and GLi Civic hatch, you'll find 1 VTi-R hatch. And that 1 VTi-R hatch has a 50% chance of being in a trashed condition.

I beg to differ.

The EK4 has a softer chassis, sunroof and better sound insulation. So it was marketed as the more comfortable car that still had a decently powerful engine when it was new.

The EK9 Type R has a rock hard chassis from all that extra welding, nearly no sound insulation, and no extra gizmos like the sunroof. And then all the hardcore bits like the recaros and momos. So was the ultimate hardcore Civic back in its day.

Take for example, The regular E92 BMW M3 and the E92 M3 GTS. The M3 GTS is so much more focused, up spec and hardcore. But which of the two is the more comfortable car?

i agree with 90lan, there is nothing "luxury" about any ek.

the ek9 was a more racey version with a better engine, more rigid chassis etc. but that dosent make the ek4 'luxury'. you cant say its more comfortable therefore its "luxury"

Hi guys, gonna revive an oldish thread rather than make a new one.

What's the difference between all the coupes?
Redbook says that the coupe is EK4, but i thought they were EJ and EM :S (i trust u guys more)
reason being is that i may look into getting one in the future (6 months or so)

Oh, and what's the difference between the JDM/AUDM ones, and facelift/prefacelift....

oh and are there any nice colours? (that electric blue one..?)

just clarify ej8 is the ek shape with d16y8
gotta separate it from the ej1, which was an eg shape coupe

ej8 > em1 for engine swaps, as the em1's pull a premium. otherwise em1 > ej8
