just wondering does it make a difference in performance with a pod or is it mainly just for sound, thinking maybe i should keep it standard?? what do you guys think

Not much difference in performance wise.

Just the sound is much louder when its NOT covered.

performance increase depends on what engine you have.

something to think about, out of the whole breathing system of the engine, the valve seats are the most restrictive part. the rest of the system has minimal impact. if you do switch to a pod, you'll get MAX 5kw, most likely less.

now of course this depends on the car and the actual intake system and the restrictiveness of the stock piping, but only to an extent.

Also, just in regards to wuakrs comment, if you just get a pod and use stock piping it's very soft (barely a difference at all). BUT I have an SRI withg K&N pod in my VTi-R that's covered using the stock housing (with ducting for cold air) and it's still pretty loud. I don't know if you were thinking about getting just a pod or the whole SRI/CAI, but that's a note!
