Hi all,

Ive been trying to clean up the K-frame on my EM1. The previous owner let battery acid spill on it and left it there, creating surface rust.

I've cleaned it up a bit (still not completely done- see pics) and I'm at a loss as to how to paint it when it's fully prepared.

I'm not at all keen to remove the whole subframe (obviously), so how can I go about painting it?

Should I mask off as much of the surrounding area (theres heaps of hoses/firewall/engine around it) and spray it, or use a brush? I don't want it to look like a dodgy job.

All advice will be appreciated.

Mike

Any replies will be appreciated, especially from the more experienced members. Should I remove the subframe? It just seems like so much work.

Just use aluminium foil or newspaper wrap or cover surrounding area (hoses/firewall/engine/… around it) and spray it then use brush to touch up unsprayed area. Don’t worry doggy job because by the time it will cover with dust anyway. Just paint it to prevent rust.

Thanks for the reply.

You are right, it'll be covered in dirt before long anyway. I hadn't thought if using alfoil, that's a good idea.

Rep point given, I'm surprised at the lack of responses to this post. I know my question is a bit noob, but definitely not retarded.

if you want to do a proper job use some primer before applying the paint
