Hey guys i was just reading the insurance post which is like 5 pages long and got a very rough idea on what you guys pay but was wondering if someone could please give me an idea on what they believe is a good amount to pay as a 19yr old on p plates for the honda s2000, i have a deposit on an s2k that im hopeufully gonna buy next week so long as all goes well with the RWC, and my best quote so far is by just cars at $3300 p.a, or $322.00 per month, is that reasonable? or do u guys recon i could do better, im still yet to try cgu and budget direct, and have called aami, and racv already....racv wanted 6g =/
Cheers.

For 19 and on P's that's a pretty good deal!

For me at 36 with a clean driving record forever, rating one for life and all the extra stuff, I was still looking at around $1,500 a year most places. For my age group, AAMI was the best, and that turned out to be around $700 a year. But as i said, I'm a few years past you, and the insurance does come down a lot for me.

You are doing the right thing. Check out every company that you can. You never know who'll have the best deals, and remember to check every time the renewal comes up because the specs for premiums change every year. It's almost impossible for aonyone to tell you who the best will be for you because there's just so many factors that go into insurance quotes these days that it's pretty hard for two people to be the same.

Is the insurance under your name or as a second driver and what kind of level of excess are you quoted with just car?

Only reason I'm asking is I'm in the same age bracket as you and 3300 sounds about right.

My premium rose $400 this year, and I turned 25 too.... wtf. No other changes.

^ i wouldnt... especially with a car of you ones calibre... unless you like apprentices trhashing your car during the "valet" service.... and second hand parts with dodgey repairs... think about how they get the premium so low

Really.. ? that's way too cheap.. i did a quote under my wife's name which is rating 1 for life (24 y.o) with aami and it was $6,617.. WTF... ? with a few mods like suspension, wheels and headers. it went up to 8.8k or so..

I also then did a quote under my dad's name who is 60 years old, no accident claims in over 10 years, has his license for over 25 years.. and they're still quoting $4,263... The location i've put is bossley park and green valley which aren't too bad..

anyone know why it's so much.. ? is it because aami don't want to insure performance cars and want you to go to just car maybe?

I ended up going with Suncorp.. which i put under my mum's name.. turned out to be 1.5k.. and standard excess with modifications..

im 19 no accident thefts suspensions or claims and i pay around $2700 with just cars, was the best deal i could find at the time, you really wont find much cheaper at 19 in an s2k, sucks but its something to consider when you buy the car,
personally i love the car so much id pay most amounts

agree with zilli. aami did some horrible repairwork on my old accord euro, and not just on a single instance. going to switch away as soon as I can find time to do some insurance research.

I was with Just cars insurance and they quoted me $1350 this year. Almost $80 more that the previous year. I went with GIO instead, I now pay $1090. However just to note I did raise my premium and lowered the cars value by a few grand. The maximim insured value that I could have insured my S was for $38,000

Try to adjust a few factors when buying your insurance it may save you a few hundred dollars, just be aware that if you do have an at fault accident it yould leave you worse off. It depends how you drive and what risks you take.

I'm 29 btw with no accident history.

I called them and spoke to someone from Shannons when i was 19 and said.. do you guys have exceptions to your under 25 rule? and they said yes so i went on talking..

Told them i had a prelude 5th gen VTI-R and listed all the modifications on it and advised them I was part of "Prelude Australia" .. then I went on explaining now I have an S2K and what mods i have and plan to do and told them that Justcars were screwing me around with excess of $2500 so he agreed that I sounded like a car enthusiast and agreed to insure me for all modifications, at my own agreed value and beat Justcars premium and excess pricing..

Maybe i just got lucky? but i know if you call them, you can convince them that your worthy :D

also few other requirements.. has to be garaged at night and no claims i believe.

Shannons will insure under 25 only for weekend/part time use. Not everyday driving.

Shannons and Just Car are owned by AAMI.
