i have had brake squeeling on my front brakes since approx 2500km (new car)..........light or heavy braking, it always squeels, hot or cold. It still squeels today 30,000km

i had it checked out twice and the dealers told me that it was the materials used with the new brake pads and how they have metallic shaving in them to give better bite but as a downside they will be a bit noisy. with the two checkup on the noise, the dealers told me that the brakes were glazed and that was the source of the noise so there wasnt much they could do about it.

so i put up with it up till now.

Today, i had some free time on my hands and decided i might switch the two front wheels around left to right. To my surprise when i took the front wheel off the passenger side i saw a groove in the brake disc all the way around, so there must be something stuck in there, or something must be causing that groove...... there is still plenty of brake pad left, as i would say 20 out of that 30 thousand K's is highway. (sydney to newcastle frequently)......

its dark so i couldnt get a picture but its to the point where i can JUST slip my nail into it, it slides out easily, but definately can be felt by my nail.

just wondering is this covered under warranty? what ever is causing that groove might even be the souce of my squeeling....

anyone??
i wanna get this done as soon as possible, just need to know if i should take it back to dealers or my trusted mechanic, cause i want to avoid the dealers if i can (they are inefficient and take way too long)

Debri (small stones etc...) can get caught in the pads/discs and cause scoring (and possibly noise.) Better pads/machines disc could fix the problem, Push the dealer to rectify it if you can. Remember, always be on them to do a proper job.

but if the disc's "DID" need to be machined, would i need to pay for the charges?? or would warranty cover this?

I'm not sure, I usually do my own servicing and haven't owned a car under warranty. Ask them.

Depends on the dealer.

They can either void it in relation to warranty> due to wear and tear item.

Or they can cover it under warranty due to unusual warpage for XXkm's

It is a wear and tear item and it is not covered under warranty. Just remove the stone. The groove won't mess with your brakes.

in that case i might just head to my mechanics place first and see if there is in fact a stone there and get him to remove it for me.
i dont want to sit at the dealers for hours just to get a stone removed. tried it there before and hesitant to go back, spent 3 hours there just to get my first 1000km check.
and i was the first one there too, told me to come early at 9am.

problem solved.......took it to the mechanic, pointed out to me that the groove i was seeing is NOTHING, in no way can that groove be making the noise, if there is in fact noise it would more likely be from the pads rather then the discs.
so what he did, took out my brake pads, and just sanded it slightly on the machine, popped them back in, and said "see how that goes"
surprisingly, as i drove home, no squeel AT ALL.
i guess the groove i saw was just nothing, and the sound is just from a build up of dust.
he said that honda are known for making these types of pads, its cause they need to last 5 years (warranty period in some cases) hence thats why they make them soo hard so it wont need to be replaced, but as a downside they can get trapped and dusty and cause squeeling noises.

so for the others that are having the same squeeling problem as me, if it really annoys you and you know how to, you can sand your pads to get rid of the noise, but it might come back later on, so i guess we all just have to put up with it.
